Just a gentle reminder that... > Fine lines and wrinkles are proof of your emotional experiences. > Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone is normal. ... > Inflammatory skin conditions are a form of communication. > Pores exist to help create the beautiful natural sebum that keeps our skin luminous and protected. > Dead skin cells are normal, incredibly useful and have a job to do. > Your skin is actually not supposed to look like glass. What other ridiculous expectations do we have of our skin?

Happy Sunday, my friend. . To me, wellbeing isn't binary. It can look like drinking a green juice in the AM followed by a hike and a tarot card reading or curling up on the couch with a pint of Ben N’Jerry’s to binge watch your fave Netflix series. Wellbeing is intuitive, it’s unique to you, it’s an experience, it’s nuanced and it’s all about the journey, not the destination. . I used to think I was a fraud being in the skin health and wellness industry. How could someone l...ike me with all my imperfections and bad habits, in a lifetime pursuit of the perfect everything bagel be trying to guide other humans on how to be well? Then I thought fuuuuuck that! it’s not ME that’s the problem, it’s the beauty and wellness industry that is, for making any of us think that we aren’t worthy of it! . If you’re on the quest of wellness perfection than Ritual might not be for you. If you want to join me in a perfectly imperfect pursuit of skin health and grounded wellbeing than, welcome! I’m really happy that you’re here. . Would you like to hear about some of the imperfect habits (served up with some humor!) that have helped bring me a sense of peace in the past few months? For me, getting grounded in 2020 has been all about going INWARD. Get on my email list (link in bio) and I will tell you all about it. See more

You can think of the digestive system as the root system of the body and your diet as the soil. A healthy functioning digestive system helps your body thrive and function optimally, and this includes your skin. My own personal approach to food is celebratory, gentle, intuitive and diverse. This is certainly a topic that I brush upon through my new client discovery process but I stay in my own lane because I’m not a Dietician or Nutritionist. While I do often make herbal reco...mmendations to support my clients digestive system as an herbalist, is it my job as a professional to send my clients to other practitioners for the proper dietary support when needed. Here are a few accounts that I like to follow that are educational and love to celebrate food (like me!)... @skinnutritious @meganfaletra @foodheaven @nourishwithcalista @nutritionhappens I’d love to add to this list! Tell me below, what nutrition accounts inspire you? Have any favorite nutrition books?

Last week I spoke a bit about my all time favorite skin care oil. I shared a few attributes about it; that it contains 57% triglycerides and fatty acids, 26% wax esters, 12% squalene, and 4.5% cholesterol. I mentioned that its incredible composition assists in preventing the entry of bacteria, fungi and microbes from wreaking havoc. I gushed about it’s amazing ability to prevent water loss and how it forms the acid mantle which is truly imperative for healthy skin functionin...g and immunity. While I told you all about how much I loved it, I didn’t actually tell you what oil it is. Since you’re all so savvy, many of you guessed and many were right, the oil that I was speaking of is your skin’s own nature sebum which is incredibly important in maintaining skin health. The function of this oil assists us in avoiding premature fine lines and wrinkles, premature collagen and elastin loss, acne, chronic dehydration, hyper pigmentation and general dermatitis. Why do I share this with you? Because it has always been my goal to help my clients and audience understand how incredible their body is, how their Integumentary system works and how less is often so much more. We are always looking outside ourselves for something to fix us. After working with hundreds (1000’s ) of clients for over ten years in the industry, I’ve learned a thing or two about working with the skins functions verses over manipulating it. There’s nothing like getting some one on one personal attention for your skin (I currently offer Virtual Consultations for that!) but if you’re curious to learn more about how you can support and help maintain this magical sebum than please sign up for my newsletter and immediately receive a free E-book titled Dry Skin Guide. Stay tuned as I chat about some of my favorite carrier oils to support long term skin health, soon!

Caring for our skin is ultimately caring for our whole selves - mind, body and spirit. Before you reach for the next skincare product, don’t forget the basics first. . Tell me... what would YOU add to the list?!

Shall I say it louder for the folks in the back?! . In a time where it feels as though we have very little power over outcomes, money speaks. . I get it, Amazon is convenient, Target feels like it’s always open and Walmart is cheap as dirt. That said, the livelihood of small business is dependent on each of us resisting the convenience trap of corporate America. This includes making an effort to seek out and support the businesses we’d like to exist on the other side of this.... . Still have money to spend? Resist the urge for convenience. Take a drive to pick up that to go food instead of using Uber Eats. Call up your favorite local business and ask how you can help, see if your favorite mom and pop shop is selling online, is your yoga studio offering virtual classes? . What businesses would you like to see stick around?! . Money speaks - let it SCREAM! See more

Dear Retail Shelves, You always have my money. It feels like you’re always just taking, taking, taking. Just when I think I have broken even and am working towards making a lil bit o’cash you scream at me for replenishment! . You and your fucking games. will we ever find common ground or is this just a manipulative game of give and take? I love you anyway, it seems I just can’t quit you. ... . Sincerely, . - An Esthetician who still can’t touch faces. . Just a reminder, you can now shop these lovely shelves on the Ritual webstore. Link in bio. See more

From the Gua Sha practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to the dry brushing and oil pulling from Ayurvedic magic, to the natural plant pigments used in sacred rituals of Native American tribes, the shea butter used to multitask in African cultures, to the bathing rituals of the Ancient Celts, sugaring hair removal techniques of ancient Egypt, to the Mexican families growing aloe plants, herbal beauty and holistic modalities were practiced culturally, in unique ways throu...ghout history. Some knowledge was well documented, some passed down through song, ritual or word of mouth, some was unique to specific cultures, while others overlapped. What many now call clean beauty, holistic beauty, green beauty is actually rooted in deep tradition. It’s not new - it’s super old school! It was about being accessible, it was about being sustainable, it was often simple and it was all rooted in self care over beauty. It was truly holistic. . As we move forward in learning about Herbal Beauty, keep in mind, that it is an honor and privilege to learn about. While this class is going to act as an introduction to herbal beauty, I highly recommend looking deeper into the incredible history and wisdom that each beautiful culture represents and finding teachers that are well equipped to teach each individual topic. Let’s learn it with honor, humility, curiosity and a ton of respect. . So honored to teach intro to Herbal Skincare/Beauty this afternoon to 20 herbal students. While having them physically in the class room is extra special, there are also some upsides to teaching digitally. . Happy Weekend Everyone! See more

To many people, a chemical is something to be avoided, an evil and artificial corruption of nature. However, everything tangible is a chemical. All that is good is chemical, just as all that is bad. All that is natural is chemical, just as all that is artificial. - David Hoffman . As I research and develop the curriculum for Herbal Beauty to teach the students at @thescarletsage this weekend, I am once again so humbled by all the things I’ve learned over the years and all... the things I still don’t know. The study of herbalism is a lifelong practice. So honored to teach again. . Do you prefer herbal skincare over conventional? If so, why? . Photo by @laeiou See more
