The short answer, yes! Dogs can get burned and suffer from irritated skin just like humans who have spent a long period of time in the sun with no protection.

Say hello to Henry, our pet of the week! He came in to finish a puppy plan vaccine and was doing great, but he had a lump on his shoulder. We were concerned he may have a local vaccine reaction, which is where the inflammatory response of the immune system to the vaccine is localized to the injection site. Typically if they appear within 1 week, stay smaller than 2cm, and resolve within 3 months they are not a concern. In Henry's case the lump appeared about 12 days after his vaccine so we aspirated the lump and got back blood. We suspect Henry got a hematoma when his neighbor set off fireworks and he got scared an ran into the door. Hopefully Henry can enjoy a few peaceful nights now that he's fully vaccinated!
