Graduation 2021 looked different this year. We are so proud of our graduates and families and had a memorable weekend celebrating them, sharing stories, giving awards, and laughing. The memorial service, celebrating the life of former girls dean Sandra Pride will be held at the Rio Lindo Academy Church on Sunday, July 11 at 1:30 pm. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." Sera and Max! We celebrated graduation this morning and held you close, even though you couldn’t be there in person. Sera is one of the most creative people you will ever meet. She’ll be attending the University of the Arts in London after doing a foundation year of studies in Hong Kong. Sera was the yearbook editor this year, well loved by her close friends and took one of the best portraits I’ve ever seen of Linda against the bright blue sky. Max Chiang stayed in Taiwan during COVID and finished his senior year from home. Max always has a smile on his face, was friendly to everyone, and is fierce with determination on the football field and basketball court. When his name was read this morning, his whole class cheered him on. We are proud of you too and wish you the best in your futures!

Today, we are launching the Christian Batchelor Scholarship Fund. This has been a long time coming as we have grieved this great loss and our hope is that we can continue Christian’s great influence and positivity and perpetuate his giant heart for others each year with this scholarship for a deserving student. Christian attended Rio from 2010 to 2013. He was a force to be reckoned with. Some described him as their personal motivational speaker, others said he was the Spartan...’s greatest hype guy. Christian honored God with his entire being and was baptized during his graduation weekend in 2013 by Pastor Krystallyn Martin. We look forward to the day when we will see him again and choose to honor his memory by living his legacy of love and encouragement to others. A beautiful tribute by alumni Rochelle Holman for former music director, Mr. Harlem Miller. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalm 116:15 No more pain, Mr. Miller...... Back in 1988 I was blessed to meet a wonderful person, awesome music instructor, a fun Spanish teacher, and ultimately a friend. Mr. Harlen Miller encouraged, nurtured, and groomed me musically into the vocalist I am today. I cannot express how grateful I am for his belief in my abilities. He had a knack for teaching and pushing you further than you could imagine. I think about when he prepared me for my college music scholarships, and with all his guidance, I became the first place winner of all three!! I sure miss hanging out at the music department for hours at a time - singing, playing and joking around with him. Mr. Miller loved God. He loved his family. He was so giving. My heart aches for Ms. Lorna. He loved her so. What a life they had together. He seemed so interested in everyone that he met. He had such the ability to bring people together through music. I think it was the Spring of 1991, fellow Lindaires please help me recall, we sang "Here's One" and I had the honor of singing the solo to this beautiful song. What's so special is that Rochelle White (former Rio Lindo Choir Director) decided 7 years ago to reunite us (director and soloist) to do the song for Alumni Weekend. I was so excited!! Previous to that time I hadn't spoken or seen Mr. Miller in 22 years. After the song was finished, we embraced and shed a couple tears. Thank you for the memories!!! I am sure that Mr. Miller will have a lot of stars in his crown. Expectantly waiting for the trumpet to sound and the dead in Christ to rise. And I can't wait to be able to sing with Mr. Miller in that heavenly choir! Praying for Mrs. Lorna Miller as she grieves her husband and friend. Praying for the family. Join us on Friday, December 18th @ 7:00 pm on our youtube channel for a special Drama class performance of The Gift of the Magi, a short story by O. Henry first published in 1905. The story is about a young married couple who find themselves without any money to buy presents for each other at Christmas. In the end, they give what they value the most, so that they can give each other a gift. It is a sweet story of giving from the heart, and the joy of giving.
