Over 80 people at Friant Cove for the Great Sierra Rivers Cleanup. Taking care of the Valley's greatest resource! #GSRCleanup
Great article by George Miller. We must get to the point where we can discuss big alternatives to big new dams.
Best news I've heard in some time. This is an essential piece of the puzzle that will bring order back to our water delivery system. With unregulated water use reigned in, we can begin planning for the ACTUAL water resources we have, and not the amount we wish we had. Not sure why the San Joaquin River between Friant and the Merced confluence was not included in this action, lots of illegal withdrawls are going unnoticed by State regulators.
The salmon are back in the river, let's do what we can to protect them on their journey back to the sea. I have been noticing retsoration scientists regularly monitoring their progress as they move down river. Restoration staff, however, have very limited resources to protect the water quality and diversions that impact survival rates - this is left up to local advocate groups like ours. A good article about the health of the Delta and how excessive State pumping has lead to the lowest recorded smelt and salmon numbers in recorded history.
I joined John for his first stretch down river and had a bunch of fun. I can't believe his commitment to completing the whole river. This article is a must read. Great Job John!
Talking logic and common sense to the walls of the State Capitol @ the Rally to Save the Delta/ Stop the Tunnels. Did the Legislature and Governor hear us? Probably not, most speakers talked about the gross lack of transparency and lack of public participation in the Bay Delta Conservation Planning process.
This is great, new tools in the battle to protect our river. Time to revisit the San Joaquin River Conservancy's rulebook. Hopefully this will strengthen our local capacity to enforce State and federal regulations as well.
Anybody know the Yokut Indian word for the San Joaquin River? I know that the Spanish Missionaries called it Rio de San Fancisco before it was renamed by Gabriel Moraga as the San Joaquin after St. Joachim - the father of the Virgin Mary. Named after Jesus' Grandpa? A grand river named for a significant grand father? Your thoughts.
