TODAY at 1:30 pm! Show up to the Oakland City Council meeting to Demand that City Council Defund OPD! Libby Schaaf is slashing budgets across the board EXCEPT for THE OPD. The police eat up 44% of our city budgets while terrorizing Black and Brown communities. We demand Oakland #DefundOPD by at least 50% ($150 million) and invest those millions in programs that actually keep us safe.

There are now 30 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 at San Quentin State Prison, since CDCR transferred folks from CIM - a known hotspot. We know these numbers are being underreported from a lack of adequate testing! The pandemic will continue to spread throughout San Quentin unless CDCR and Governor Newsom act now! There is no safe way to social distance while living behind bars in overcrowded prisons during a global pandemic! #StopSanQuentinOutbreak - grant mass releases to incarcerated people and reduce California’s prison population now! #FreeThemAll #ClemencyNow #LetThemGo #LeadWithMercy #CareNotCages #DeathByIncarceration

UPDATE ON SHERIFF AHERN'S $85 MILLION BUDGET REQUEST--The vote is postponed to April 21st. This gives us time to continue to push for releasing people from Santa Rita Jail and build up more people power to defeat this budget proposal in its tracks. Stay tuned for updates

Today the Alameda County Board of Supervisors will vote on the Sheriff's proposal to allocate an additional $85 million toward staff at Santa Rita Jail. Link here: https://zoom.us/j/721543530 Livestream today's county meeting at 10:45am and make your voice heard by participating in public comment. The sheriff's $85 million budget proposal is Item #8. Sample public comment: My name is ___ and I live in ______. Please vote NO on the proposed annual allocation of $85 million f...or 370 new positions at Santa Rita Jail. Spending taxpayer dollars on incarceration instead of healthcare in the middle of a global pandemic unconscionable. This proposal is completely unsubstantiated as it is not based on any known documentation, official analysis, report, or court order. Do the right thing! Take measures to further reduce the jail population and dedicate the proposed $85 million to meeting the immediate needs of our frontline public health workers and unhoused neighbors. See more

Thanks to tremendous pressure and people power, 314 people have been released from Santa Rita Jail this week. There’s still at least 2400 in custody and we gotta fight to bring them home as the rona continues to spread. Please call DA O’Malley today and demand that she stop delaying the process! @ellabakercenter @ciyja @jrcofac @causa_justa @surjbayarea & human impact partners @ Alameda County District Attorney
