We made it through the first month of growing. The pumpkins are taking off after a cooler than usual start of summer weather. Compost tea seems to be the drink they prefer on these now warm afternoons.

Helping with the pollination of the pumpkins, I put tubs of water out for the wild honeybees that are doing a great job.

For those who want to be an early bird, we have pumpkins ready. They store really good for months. We only have fifty to choose from.

LAKE FIRE UPDATE AT RERIDE RANCH. The fire is still several miles away, but slowy moving closer. A Thunderstorm is active now with hopes of rain, and no lightn...ing strikes. So far I have put sprinklers on top of the house, pulled our fire hose out from the hydrant house, clearing more burnable, away from the house, and had Vicki take me to Bakersfield and brought back the 4,000 gallon water truck I drive part time. I can be a water tender, keeping a fire engine with a water supply or use any of the spray nozzles mounted on the truck for pre soaking or fighting fire. The fire crews put in dozer lines, made an assessment for both houses, and layed hose lines around both houses, for a quick connection with an eginine if they need to show up. Our hydrants and hoses will be for back up or to hook an engine to our two 5,000 gallon water tanks here. The crew last night reassured me the fire wasnt going to get this far. Their work here are contingent plans. Having Peace, Being Diligent.

UPDATE Our area is now under mandatory evacuation. The fire is still a long ways from our place, but it was wind ravaged today and burnt out if control again. ...I barely got back to our home after a lengthy conversation with CHP which is manning the road blocks. Now that I am home, I have to stay. If I leave I cannot reenter. Vicki also was away from home, and they won't let her in. She is at a friend's tonight. Extreme heat is driving the fire, and wearing on the fire crews. Please continue to pray. I feel peace like a river. The closer I got to home , the bigger it looked. The sherriff came by and said be prepared. It's about 15 miles from here. Though ten thousand fall all around us, none shall come near us.
