Bad day! This is a hydro-lock from a leaking head gasket, allowing coolant to get in the cylinder and won’t compress. Bends or breaks a rod. We do all Prius repairs including complete engine rebuilds or changes.

I always forget to post this kind of stuff so I’m gonna do it right now! What do you do if you have a hybrid, any hybrid, and you get the dreaded check hybrid system error? This is represented by that statement, a red triangle, a yellow triangle, or some other proprietary symbol on your dash. I was just filling up at Costco and heard a customer tell the attendant that his car would not drive or even start because of check hybrid system error.... I asked him if he could put it into neutral, and he could. We pushed it out of the way so that the next person could fill up. Now, I will be honest with you, I know nothing about the Kia, Senata hybrid. But what I do know is, all hybrids use the low-voltage battery as the brain operator for the car while the high-voltage battery starts the car. (The low voltage battery allows the computers to determine it’s safe to start the car while the high voltage battery actually turns over the engine.) We disconnected the low-voltage battery for 30 seconds, reconnected it, and he was able to start the car. What this in effect did was reset the system, removing whatever temporary roadblock was preventing the car from starting. Now, this is not a fix for a problem, all it does is clear a non-catastrophic error temporarily. I told him he should drive to whoever services his car to have it checked out. So, if you are having a problem with your car and don’t know what else to do, this is a method of potentially, temporarily, clearing whatever errors your car might be experiencing.

We are needing to replace an employee that was not skilled but was able, with a little instruction, to perform most general maintenance and repair tasks on a Toyota Prius. He used his common sense to figure most things out with appropriate questions asked. ... We are also looking for someone with some mechanic skills and engine knowledge, though we can train most of what we need since the Prius is so specific. Age nor ability matters. Prius "C" high voltage battery warning. This could damage your battery. Please forward to your Prius "C" friends. This could save them thousands. The high voltage battery must be cooled. It's critical for daily operations and its longevity. All HV batteries have a cooling fan than pulls air from the cabin. They get clogged by dander, hair and dust from the cabin. The C has a very tight screen in the worst possible place, at the feet of the rear passenger. This is what happens.

We often hear the question, "How many miles is too many miles for a Prius?" I honestly don't know if "too many miles" applies to a Prius. Case in point. I am driving a car with what might be described as a significant amount of miles. It is well maintained (regular oil changes), consumes less than a quart of oil over 5,000 mile oil change period, and has a refurbished HV battery. I just returned from Woodland Hills to Bakersfield on a new tank of gas, 104.4 miles. That is ...uphill over half the way, included 20 city miles, over the grapevine, and downhill to Bakersfield. I was not running the air conditioner, did not exceed 63 MPH under acceleration, and coasted where possible. My MPG was a whopping 59.6 MPG. Now, I will admit I coasted wherever possible (not less than 55 MPH), was very easy on acceleration (did not impede normal traffic flow), and drafted a big rig once. But still, that all doesn't account for more than 5 MPG. So, do you want to know the vehicles mileage? Any guesses? I'll post mileage picture later. But now the question is, "When do you want your Prius?"

Received a "new" charcoal gray, Gen 2, 2007, Prius today. Due to being overstocked, we will let the car go for a great price. A car fire started at rear and never reached engine compartment. Engine, transmission and other engine compartment components are good-drivers headlight, bumper cover, front grill pieces, fog lights, radiator full, AC system charged, etc. If you have a front end accident you need parts to repair, this is your car.

Picked up a slightly dented 2004 in Reno Wednesday. Need parts? Good front doors, HV battery, interior in good shape, great engine, 2006-2009 tail lights, some good rims and tires, MFD, instrument cluster, rear hatch, hatch release panel, etc.

Ran into Val at Costco. Nice modifications. He really enjoys his car and has put a lot of time into it. Funny part of story is, a brand new candy apple blue Corvette was sitting right next to this car. As I was fawning over the Prius and ignoring the vet, I think the vet owner got bent.
