A Christmas Wish for You and Yours. Dear Friends: Attending service at St. Stevens Church in San Francisco this Christmas Eve.... During this holy and joyous time of year, we offer our prayers and wishes to you for a safe and restful holiday season. We have endured so much this year that it is hard to fathom how we have survived. But survive we have, and the new year promises to be much brighter. We will not repeat the haunting statistics here. They are indelibly etched in our minds. We mourn the loss of loved ones, we bow in adoration of all the health care workers and first responders who have given their all and then some, we are grateful to the essential workers who have braved the virus to keep us comfortable, and we praise the scientists who have brought us a vaccine to end this trauma. There are those who are homeless, unemployed, and despondent that we must not forget. We are so appreciative of the generosity of the people in our communities. We have witnessed it firsthand at food distribution centers throughout the district. Thanks to technological advances, we have been able to stay in touch in ways previous generations could never have dreamed. Many of us have also used this time to return to the simple pleasures of walks in our neighborhoods, planting gardens, making food for our families, listening to music, and long talks. This year has showed us what matters most to each and every one of us. We have met these hardships with courage and resilience. Like many of you, as we look back on this year, we feel sadness and frustration even some anger. But even greater than those feelings are our sense of optimism, pride, and joy as we think of the year ahead and the amazing opportunities that await us. It is fitting that the world’s religions focus on light during dark, cold winter months. Let us all look to the light in our hearts this holiday season.
