Join us on June 17 at 6:30pm (CDT) for an opportunity to witness two versions of Regina Klenjoski's choreography for US. Experience the original version, which was created as a dance film, staged and shot in a downtown Wichita parking garage, then see its evolution as Regina reimagined and restructured it for a vastly different outdoor space in the gardens of Botanica. Regina will be joined by composer Alex Wakim to discuss the creation of the original music for the live version of the piece. This duet is inspired in the poem El Beso by Angelina Weld Grimké (1880 1958) American journalist, teacher, playwright, and poet who came to prominence during the Harlem Renaissance. Andrea Vazquez (MFA: SUNY Brockport, BFA: National Conservatory of Dance in Mexico D.F.) is an interdisciplinary dance artist. She was a scholar under FONCA (Federal Council for Culture and Arts in Mexico) and has danced in several professional companies in Mexico and the United States. Duets for My Valentine is a virtual dance concert that will showcase a diverse group of choreographers and their perspectives on the variety of duets that exists in our world. New short dance film COMING SOON! RKDC was scheduled to perform at Botanica during their glorious Illuminations holiday lights display, but Covid concerns have shifted those plans. So, we went out to Botanica this week to film this festive new work, set to the stunning music of Alex Wakim - Composer/Pianist, New York-based film composer, Wichita native. His new album Dust and Ions is available now.
