Very nice to see some more diversity on Kahekili, like this octopus that we’ve seen consistently while snorkeling! Hoping to come across it while diving soon! It is such a joy to watch it feed and camouflage! Such a brilliant creature! @ Kahekili Beach Park

Back on the islands for ReefQuest’s summer survey 2019. Started on Hawaii at Kohala and was surprised to see so much algae overgrowth, struggling coral, and a surprising number of Crown of Thorns starfish. At least 6 between two dives on Tuesday in north Kohala. Looking forward to comparing conditions to Maui next week. #marinescience @ Kohala Coast

Some shots from yesterday’s crossing! Made it to Blake Island for the night. The marina has a resident group of raccoons that love to stop by (on the boats ) looking for food. They’re friendly... and terrifying... and got no food from us. @ Blake Island
