Meet one of our food recipients, Sharon. She attends a weekly food distribution in the Rincon Valley neighborhood of Santa Rosa. She was kind enough to share her story with us... "About 5 years ago, I sold my condo to move in with and take care of my mother who was struggling with dementia. A couple years after moving in with her, I was laid off from my job of 24 yearsthat's when I learned about the Redwood Empire Food Bank. For the remaining years of my mom’s life, I got us... groceries from the food distribution in our neighborhood. It's a godsend. Cost of living is so high these days...add in gas prices, medical careit's hard to afford healthy groceries. I lost my mother last year, but now I'm taking care of my twin sister who lives across town. Having this food assistance has helped in so many ways. The food is healthy, and lasts me so long!" Our mission at the Redwood Empire Food Bank is simpleto end hunger in our community. How we accomplish it is not. The Redwood Empire Food Bank collaborates with local and regional partners to obtain and distribute the equivalent of more than 40,000 meals every day. We have more than 300 of our own direct service distributions, and we partner with 170 other hunger relief organizations.
