On the sixth day of tips, the City gave to me... some ways to conserve energy! Check out these energy saving tips from Redding Electric Utility - REU: If your... home is heated with an electric pump, increase the thermostat settings in increments of no more than 2 degrees. Don’t pay for warm air that you aren’t using. Install and set a programmable or wi-fi thermostat. It’ll save you 10-15% on your energy bill. Clean or replace your heater’s air filter monthly and have it checked annually by a licensed HVAC contractor. Not only will it keep your unit running optimally, but it will also make sure that you and your family are breathing the healthiest air in your home. Don’t block heating vents or return air registers with anything that obstructs air flow. Both your supply and return vents need to be obstruction-free to maximize your heater’s performance. Reverse the direction of your fan in the winter to optimize your heating potential. Take advantage of the winter’s sunlight. Open blinds and curtains to invite in the natural solar heat. Close them at night to reduce the chill and minimize heat loss. If you are considering an upgrade to your computer, TV or other appliances, look for items with the Energy Star logo and reap the benefits of instant energy savings. Portable electric heaters consume a significant amount of energy, even those that are considered energy efficient. One 1,500 watt portable heater consumes as much as 15 100-watt incandescent light bulbs. Keep your fireplace or wood stove damper closed tightly when it’s not in use to avoid heat loss through your chimney or flue. Unplug electronics that are not in use. The National Weather Service extended the Red Flag Warning period through 5:00pm Tuesday due to high winds and low humidity. For wildfire safety REU modifies its operations in response to the elevated fire threats which can lead to longer outages. High wind, trees and powerlines can be a recipe for fires, so when outages do occur, similar to yesterday afternoon on the westside of Redding, Line Personnel must patrol the lines and reenergize as safely as possible. Under norma...l weather conditions there would not have been an extended outage but when a system fault occurs during the Red Flag Warnings safety for the community will continue to be the highest priority. To report trees in power lines please visit our website @ https://www.cityofredding.org//report-trees-in-power-lines or call REU at (530) 224-4356 #publicpower #wildfireprevention #workingtogether See more
