Redding Municipal Airport's Manager, Jim Wadleigh, is the guest on this brand new City of Redding Podcast episode! In this episode, Jim talks about how airport operations work here in Redding and ongoing efforts to secure more flights to additional locations. Jim is fairly new to Redding but has a wealth of knowledge about airports and flying and has big ideas for growth and change. He comes with an impressive resume - from working on the tarmac for Continental on small airc...raft to joining the marines and passing his air traffic control test with flying colors. He has a background in Aviation Management and led key growth and development efforts at three municipal Bay Area airports before moving to Redding. Also, if you hadn't heard already, the direct flight to LAX is resuming in March! Jim talks about this flight service and why it has been successful. This is great news!
RDD is ready for aircraft! Pilots, please check your NOTAMs for the latest information. RDD Staff worked tirelessly all night clearing snow to the Primary Runway, RWY 16/34. Great job!
Well, this is exciting! Not only is Redding, California listed as one of the The Diary Of A Nomad's 37 Best Hidden Vacation Spots in the US, but these amazing locations give us something to look forward to as the world begins to open up again! Which of these would you love to check out first?
Man's best friend, and Airports too! Agency partners from the Department of Homeland Security - Federal Protective Service had a stopover in RDD today. These teams actively train and conduct sweeps without using technology. Thank you for your service! P.S. We think the K-9 saw something he liked in the vending machine.
A message from the Redding Airports Manager: "It goes without saying that COVID has been really tough on us all. This year, many things have changed, including the way we fly. We remain grateful to have a transportation option for those that still need to travel by air. Currently, United is offering 1 flight to and from SFO. The additional flights to and from SFO, as well as the LAX flight, remain suspended for the time being. ... I would like to take a moment to encourage our community to familiarize themselves with the health guidelines and practices for travelers from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) before flying. https://www.cdc.gov///travelers/travel-during-covid19.html. United has also taken precautions to ensure passenger safety when flying and let travelers know what to expect on their day of travel. https://www.united.com///us/fly/travel/what-to-expect.html. Redding Airport staff continue to follow current health and safety measures so that you can fly knowing your health and safety is of the greatest importance to us. We can all do our part to get through this pandemic by traveling safely and smartly. Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe this holiday season and contact us if you have any questions about traveling through RDD. We can be reached at (530) 224-4321 or by emailing us at [email protected]. Travel safe & be well, Jim Wadleigh Airports Manager
Thank you Veterans for your service. We salute you!
Pilots will notice that our Operations and Maintenance staff freshened up our markings for Runway 34. Not only will the fresh markings be more visible in the daylight, the markings include retro-reflective glass beads to enhance the conspicuity of the markings during nighttime operations. Great job Redding staff! Do you know your Runway markings? What markings are visible in this picture?
Shown here is Cavin with the City of Redding Streets Crew crack-sealing Runway 16/34. These important maintenance efforts are a form of preservation treatment ahead of the upcoming rainy season to prevent water infiltration and extend the life of the pavement. Great job Cavin and Team!
GOOD NEWS!!! Peter Chu's is reopening to dine-in customers starting Tuesday September 15th at their regular hours. They will be able to accommodate half their normal capacity in accordance with capacity limits and social distancing measures.
The Redding Municipal Airport and The City of Redding offer sincere condolences to the families and friends of those impacted by the crash that occurred this morning just outside Redding’s Benton Airport. Sadly, two people lost their lives in the crash and two people were transported to Mercy Medical Center - Redding. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are conducting a thorough investigation, a process that can take more than a year to complete. The Redding Municipal Airport is in full cooperation with their requests.
The Marines have landed!
We see all kinds of designs for facial coverings used by passengers in our Terminal. The most common are below. Do you have a favorite? Show us in the comments. As a kind reminder, we're a family friendly page.
Flying soon? Check out United's "What to expect when you fly." https://www.united.com///us/fly/travel/what-to-expect.html
Quick drop-off today. We support our wildland fire crews! Stay safe!
Golden Knights (currently airborne) to pay tribute this morning to the first responders in Redding.
