Special note to Heroes who are faced with leadership challenges. Stay positive, nothing can stop you but You! Back in 1984, my commander did not like me! Wh...en I first arrived at my initial duty station, I was required to report to his office in full service dress blues. As a direct duty Airman, I nervously entered his office rendering a sharp salute along with flawless reporting statement. He returned a sloppy salute. Never making eye contact, he talked about his expectations while glancing out the window. Continuing to stare out the window, he talked about how he does not believe in the new Air Force social action program and if we ever had a problem, we could take it out back and solve it. Finally, he concluded that I would never see the age of 20 in his Air Force. Believe me, he had it in for me...he had me stressed out, he had me on the ropes, he almost knocked me out, and he made me want to quit. Luckily, I had some great wingmen who provided CPR when I stopped breathing. In some cases, they had to get out defibrillators because I was dead! However, I kept getting resuscitated.Although this commander clearly held an unjust grudge, his actions did not stop me from reaching my fullest potential. Not only did I see the age of 20, I reached the magical 28 years of faithful service because I learned to be a victor instead of a victim. I encourage you to do the sameSUSTAIN THE PEP!
