Watch for news of the grand opening of the former Scotia Inn, under a new name, the Scotia Lodge - it's scheduled for Wed., July 7, 4-6 p.m. Meanwhile as always chamber meetings are open to all and available on phone-in the first Friday of the month at noon; call 605.313.4802 and enter access code 860467. We hope everyone is enjoying a warm and sunny Flag Day. While this is usually a day the Chamber of Commerce puts out the flags on Wildwood,, it was raining at 5:30 this morning. Watch for July 4 when the flags should be out!

The North Coast Journal is doing its annual "best of Humboldt" competition and many local businesses made the top 3 in their listing, so now the race is on for getting to be the winner. Let's show some hometown love and support these local businesses/places - you can vote daily if you wish for the month of June. Wishing you and yours a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. For many this is a time to welcome in summer, get out the boat, fire up the barbeque and enjoy time with family and friends. It is of course also a time to reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy these pleasures in peace. The chamber will be putting up flags on Memorial Day down Wildwood Avenue in Rio Dell - join us at 5:30 a.m. and/or 8 p.m. to help if you'd like some exercise, netwo...rking and patriotic bonding. In addition, the chamber is having a veterans salute on the lawn of city hall throughout the three-day weekend, displaying the photos and names of the local men and women of our military, living and dead. If you didn't get your loved one's information and photo sent in early enough (there was a May 15 cut-off) we'll do it again in November for Veterans Day. The last month saw the opening of Element 7 Rio Dell, a new dispensary. Element 7, the second dispensary to open in Rio Dell, will hold a two-day grand opening this Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22, starting at 10 a.m. Manager Chris Bloom says there will be a food truck, contests and more during the two-day event. The Rio Dell-Scotia Chamber of Commerce will officially cut the ribbon at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 15. The dispensary is located at 281 Wildwood Avenue in the city's main business area and has been holding a 'soft opening' this week. The first dispensary to open was Proper Wellness, which also has a location on 5th Street in Eureka; it opened in Rio Dell in March, 2020. The public and media are invited to celebrate the Element 7 opening.
