Mortgage Rates Finally Catching a Break! great article!

Rebekah DeBenedictis 09.06.2021

Economic Update Stocks finished mixed on Friday, concluding a volatile week that saw the largest Nasdaq decline since October. The catalyst for volatility was the sharp increase in government bond yields, due to the prospect of a rapid economic recovery and accelerating inflation. Concerns that central banks will remove their accommodative monetary policy earlier than expected weighed on high-flying equity valuations, as investors are pricing in higher costs of capital. The t...echnology sector rebounded on Friday but finished the week considerably lower, significantly underperforming more cyclical sectors that stand to benefit from the reopening of the economy. U.S. 10-year treasury yields, gold, and oil all traded lower, with yields falling to 1.41% from a one-year high of 1.60%. Mortgage prices retraced losses from earlier in the week, with 30-year conventional production coupons seeing their best daily performance versus their treasury hedges for the week. By 5 p.m. on Friday, UM30 1.5%s-2.5%s closed ~8-12/32nds tighter to treasuries, which was supported by demand from month-end index buyers. Origination supply finished just over $10b. The New York Fed released their planned MBS purchase schedule for the next two weeks. Total planned purchases over the period are estimated at $55.7b, compared to $61.9b in the previous cycle. Monday the Fed’s focus will be pointed toward $6.2b in UMBS 30-year 1.5%s-2.5%s and $1.5b in UMBS 15-year 1.5%s-2.0%s. The first week of March is busy on the economic calendar, highlighted by February’s prepayment speed report on Thursday and the payrolls report on Friday. Equity futures are pointing to a ~1% higher open. Johnson & Johnson shares are up ~3% in pre-market trading. The Center for Disease Control and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration both authorized the use of J & J's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine over the weekend.

Do you know your credit score? Why should you check? Your credit score plays an important part in determining your eligibility for a mortgage loan and what the interest rate and other costs you pay on the loan may be.
