Our third virtual meeting was held Yesterday morning, April 10th with 16 of us in attendance. Our charter master, Frank Moton announced that the September 1 day trip on the Voyager is almost full so if you were thinking of going on this trip you should contact Frank now. He also said that we still have openings on the three Ensenada rockcod / yellowtail trips starting June 23rd, with trips also scheduled for July 21st, and August 18th. We also have three overnight trips o...n the Voyager scheduled for July 28th, August 25th , and October 20th. Contact Frank Moton for more information or to sign up for any of these trips at 858-220-0388. On the fishing scene, Jim Stevenson reported that there is still trout fishing at the local lakes and that the last trout plants of the year will take place soon. Eddie Abate reported in via email from El Salto lake, just east of Mazatlán, Mexico where he was experiencing some very good bass fishing. His next destination was Louisiana but didn’t say what he was fishing for, possibly alligator Gar, bullheads, or carp. I am looking forward to seeing the photos. Glenn Foss and Barbara Gattuso both reported good fishing on a recent trip to Cabo San Lucas. Barbara caught an 80 lb. yellowfin tuna and Glenn caught a large Rooster fish along with limits of dorado and a nice size grouper. Barbara is hosting another Cabo trip scheduled for next October, Details are attached. Dick Lemire and Ed Murphy send pictures of Halibut and Salmon from Alaska. I made a short trip to La Paz and was able to fish 3 days between days it was too windy to get on the water. I had very good fishing for Cabrilla and some nice size 20-30 lb. Yellowtail. See more

My son in law an I made a quick fishing trip to Camalu, BC Mexico to fill our freezers with rockcod. We left my house in vista about 7:AM and stopped at the Tijuana border to get Todd a FMN tourist pass. We crossed the border without any trouble but just after making the right turn towards the toll road there were red and blue lights flashing behind us. It was the municipal police and they wanted to check us for drugs, guns, and ammunition. After being patted down, and my tru...ck thoroughly inspected they apologized and sent us on our way. After completing the 214 mile drive, we arrived at our destination. I had made reservations at La Cueva del Pirata hotel only to find it closed, office, restaurant everything locked up. After wandering around the place for awhile I finally found the cleaning lady that has been there for many years. After a few phone calls to the owner she remembered that I did have a reservation and had the cleaning lady find me a room that was suitable. I had to use the cleaning lady’s key since she did not have access to the office. Finally, the next day we went fishing with my friend Lee Moreno’s son Eric. We overfilled a 100 quart ice chest with some very large reds, Lingcod, and miscellaneous other bottom fish. Since we had mor than enough to take home we decided to go out closer to shore and try for some halibut or white sea bass. No Halibut or WSB but we caught a lot of sand bass, some of them were the biggest I have ever seen. That day we fished with Lee who I have been fishing with for about 20 years now. We finished that day about noon with another 100 qt. ice chest full of fish which we gave away. When we got back to the hotel the owner was waiting to collect her $64 for two nights stay. We got back home about 7 PM, one hour wait at the border. See more

Our September trip on the Voyager was very successful. Capt Todd and his crew did a great job of putting us on fish and keeping things sorted out during the madness. By 8 AM had to move away from the tuna since everyone had limits. The rest of the day consisted of straight dorado and everyone had limits of those as well. A great trip and a bunch of happy fishermen.

This past weekend my brother and I drove down Mexico hwy 1 to Camalu for a couple of days of panga fishing. After checking in at the Cueva del Pirata hotel w...e had a surprisingly good meal at the hotel restaurant. The next morning we met with my old friend Lee Moreno and his son Erick . Since Lee was nursing a back injury Erick would be taking us out fishing this weekend. After sliding in the boat down the rocks into the ocean we headed out about 20 miles to an area north of San Martin island. That day we caught limits of very nice reds. A lot of Sheephead , whitefish and some miscellaneous rockfish. The next day was much the same except we caught a lot more lingcod and the wind and seas were much calmer. Monday we headed home , crossed at the Tecate border (only one car ahead of us at this border) . All in all a very good trip.. See more
