I've been pondering how geometry fits into my world of content development. My latest experiences with SEO/SEM show that there is a correlation between how much time we invest in good content and the quality of responses. What do you think?

There are sound economic reasons for outsourcing work to freelancers, it all depends on your organization and what you expect to accomplish. The ebb and flow of business economics always play havoc on staffing: When business is up, managers hire like crazy; when it goes down, they cut like threshers in the fall. While staffing is a vital management tool, oh how core employee morale suffers! [ 882 more words ] https://www.heavypen.com/outsourcing-is-a-great-productivi/

I'm Ray Wyman Jr - a freelance writer. I work as a website content writer, but also as a technical writer, public relations professional, and marketing communications consultant. I have worked with some truly brilliant clients over the past 30 years: well-known tech companies, global business clubs, emerging aerospace companies, and disruptive startups. I have also worked for highly successful attorneys, visionary investors, best-selling authors, transformational leaders, and a true comic-book hero (Jack Kirby). If you're struggling with generating enough traffic for your website, you have lots of company. But don't be tempted by SEO cheats and shortcuts. Better to invest in high quality content. http://www.heavypen.com/works-old-school-white-hat-seo/

The headline says "Freelancers, Take Control of Your Meeting Schedule" - but there's more to it than just managing the meeting schedule. We freelancers have a weakness - we have so much control over our work schedule that we can change it at will, at any time. That's great, right? Freedom is good, right? Any experienced freelancer will tell you that this is a blessing and a curse. When possible, I lump as many client meetings as possible into one or two days. I also ask for agendas - with specific goals (outcomes) from the meeting. When possible, I defer face-to-face meetings for really important production issues. Otherwise, we meet on Skype or other conference call service. You'll find more common sense suggestions from the original article by Dorie Clark.

Looking for a way to turn Social Media Content Creation into a full-time career? Let me say, as a 30-year veteran freelance content creator, it's no easy task. Enumerated lists that begin with "4 Tips to..." often overlook prerequisites like talent and training. Don't expect much if you lack these. And don't expect miracles if you don't have the wherewithal to apply professionalism and consistency in your work (read: attention to details). Read on, though. Because content creation is a developing field - the Good Lord knows there's plenty of work to do. http://ow.ly/WoLT30d8F5B

I have clients who are victims of patent trolls (aka "patent sitting"). We wonder why it is so hard to get rid of these parasites. But take a look at the people making the laws - lawyers? I've heard from more than one source that the practice is one of the reasons that some law firms even exist. So, there's that. Right about now, I'm going to sound like a broken record: we need tort and patent reform to make it more difficult to game the system.

So imagine my curiosity when I found this headline today: "How Luxury Brands Can Do WeChat Marketing In-House with Only $1,448 A Month" - First, I'm thinking - been there and done that. But then I read a bit deeper and discover that they're talking about a is a Chinese social media app that features instant messaging and payment services. Retailers use this app to do one thing - get people talking WHILE they're in-store. And the bit that really caught my eye... one of the "Don'ts" for WeChat - #2 - Don't hire an agency. LOL. So, in other words, let social media be... oh... naturally social? Wow. What a concept. http://ow.ly/wQZQ30d8HoI

Branding/messaging guys often push the idea that effective content must be enumerated in some way. Well. Maybe. Back when nobody did it. Nowadays, as a mass consumer of content, I'm suspicious of headlines that begin with a numbered ways to improve or work or think. But here's one on seven ways that working parents can improve their careers, family life and themselves. Over the top? I looked. And I agree... it is a good list as a 'checksum' for effective personal management. It's an easy read - only took me a minute to scroll down the list. You're probably doing many of these already. But I'll bet there's one or two that'll give you pause - as it did me.

HBR Management Tip: Don't let your spirit get lost in the weeds of mind-numbing performance pressure. Even a brief moment of reflection can help boost your performance and resilience. Ask yourself questions and make sure that you keep the "big picture" in perspective. Take a moment to look over the top of the trench and see the landscape. Find a meaningful goal that can help you power through the monotony of seemingly meaningless tasks with a sense of purpose. Content creation is more than just uploading a few pictures and text. You gotta put some serious thought into your content. Thinking purely about the people - your target audience - that means creating interesting narratives and wonderfully woven narratives about you, your company, your product/service, and your mission. As for machines - i.e., search engines - that means applying deep contextual meaning and intent behind the words you use to describe your product and servi...ces (yeah, the machines grade your content). Consider also the fact that Google and Bing's complex semantic algorithms make keyword stacking and tagging outmoded and completely uncool. Some SEO "tricks" can get you blacklisted and most of the "easy" ranking methods are actually counter-productive. Why is this? Because - where your audience is concerned, nothing beats original, fresh, and engaging content. Content is once again king. Not just for the machines that rank you - but for the people who want to learn more about you. In my opinion, we've always needed deep content. If you're in business, at least part of your business ought to be engaged in creating content that has locking power. Connect with your target audiences. Well-planned and well-distributed content can draw relevant traffic from many "end points" and a well-planned content placement strategy. However, make sure that your content creation is a vibrant narrative that carries a riveting call to action and an authoritative 'voice' that commands attention of real people. Need help? Contact me.
