He wears bow ties. He runs marathons. He throws around words like externalities. Randall Stone is a well-known personality in the city of Chico, first elected to the City Council in 2012. Believe it or not, he was elected as mayor by the new council just under 13-weeks ago, succeeding Sean Morgan. It has been a whirlwind the past few months, as the city grapples with a swollen population after the devastating Camp Fire. Agendas have been packed, and meetings have been goin...g past midnight. In an enlightening Q and A with the Enterprise-Record this week, Stone explained his positions on issues ranging from commercial cannabis to sales tax and policing levels, and how he got to where he is now. Randall Stone and his wife, Krista, have lived in Chico since 1995. They have two young boys, Rhys, age 5, and Karden, under 1 year old. Stone drives but likes to take the B-Line often, he says, including on the way to his son’s school in the morning so they have some quality time together. In addition to owning his own business, Randall Stone Financial, Stone is President of the Shalom Free Clinic, Treasurer of the Safe Space Winter Shelter board and a Lecturer of Real Estate and Finance at Chico State University, among many other positions. See the Enterprise-Record’s Q and A with the Mayor below. https://www.chicoer.com//in-q-and-a-chico-mayor-randall-s/

Great job, Tracie! Project Hope has been housing a woman recovering from breast cancer surgery from before Christmas until this week. It is an honor and privilege to work with founder, Tracie Hannick. It is an even more incredible gift to be able to continue this work. And when I say work, I mean Project Hope Butte County is a 100% volunteer organization. Check us out at www.ProjectHopeButteCounty.org... http://www.krcrtv.com//project-hope-in-chico-hel/680598361

Tonight I am learning how to fight human trafficking and sex trafficking in our community as well as how to identify trafficking in our community. This event is being put on by the Chico community and law enforcement. It is a workshop sponsored by Central California Intelligence Center sacrtac.org at California State University, Chico with generous support from Chico’s own STOP!, the university’s anti-Human Trafficking group. Earlier today I formally proposed Chico's anti sex trafficking ordinance directed at regulating uncertified massage services in the City of Chico in an effort to combat massage services that front for sex trades. There is still a whole lot of work to be done on this ordinance and other measures. But I've started the process and I hope you'll join me in working on these important measures.

CHICO HOSTS LEAGUE OF CITIES SACRAMENTO VALLEY DIVISION MEETING CHICO Chico hosts the League of California Cities Sacramento Valley Division meeting this Friday, March 18th. The meetings often feature local business and iconic regional elements. Chico Councilmember Randall Stone who serves as Vice President of the Division requested the Division to have Chico host the meeting last fall. Approximately 40 mayors and council members from cities throughout the north stat...e will be in attendance with representatives from as far away as Dorris, California attending. The meeting kicks off with a tour of the Sierra Nevada Brewery facilities including Sierra Nevada’s Sustainability Tour at 1:00PM. Next participants will meet at 3:00PM with ChicoStart and discuss Team Chico and economic development practices of the City of Chico culminating in a presentation by Team Chico including the Chico Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Chico Business Association. The City of Chico won the Award for Excellence in the Community Services and Economic Development category of the League of California Cities 2014 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence program. Councilmember Stone accepted the award in October 2014 on behalf of the City of Chico. The tour this Friday shares the effectiveness of this economic development collaboration with the members of the Division. Finally the meeting will conclude at Christian Michael’s Ristorante in Downtown Chico starting at 5:00PM with a presentation from Anderson Police Chief Michael L. Johnson and Anderson community leaders regarding butane honey oil ordinances and sex trafficking prevention. A League Division business meeting will follow. The Sacramento Valley Division of the League of California Cities serves 57 member cities from the Oregon and Nevada borders, west to roughly the Coastal Range Mountains, and south of Sacramento. The Division is the largest division based on the number of representative cities in the state of California. Recently Councilmember Randall Stone received the Advanced Leadership Award from the League of California Cities. The statewide award recognizes Mayors and Councilmembers for their service to the League and for taking part in continuing education through the Mayors and Councilmembers Leadership Academy. Next month, Stone will attend the League statewide committee on Housing, Community, and Economic Development in San Diego as a member of the committee. Stone serves on this committee without financial or administrative support from the City of Chico. Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials. ###
