It's been my pleasure sharing this magical space with Ron Randall and Pia Oliver. Cheers to you both, Siobhan

Randall House Rare Books 08.07.2021

It all began in San Francisco in 1975 seems only a few short years ago that Randall House was established. We are sad to announce that we are closing our doors as of July 2020. For the last 45 years Randall House has been a proud member of the rare book community but the time has come to end this wonderful chapter - books, and begin another - spending time with family, especially grand children. Randall House has always had an open bookshop, first in San Francisco and late...r in Santa Barbara, California. Ron Randall began his rare book career when he was born; his father was David A. Randall. Ron furthered his book career at John Howell-Books in San Francisco until he and John Windle decided to strike out on their own. Later the partners amicably went their own ways, and each one pursued his own specialties in the rare book business. Pia Oliver met Ron and John when also working at John Howell-Books in 1971. Pia and Ron worked together since 1996 in Santa Barbara, and she will retire to San Diego. At 87 years old Ron will be returning to Northern California to be close to his older daughter and grand children, and there he will begin to read all those books. We want to say Thank You to everyone, thank you to colleagues, to customers and to friends. The help and support of our colleagues especially, is something we treasure and appreciate. The rare book world is a small one, a special one with all varieties of people but infinitely rich, stimulating, rewarding, and always interesting with ever more questions to ask -thank you for letting us be part of it. Phone number and snail mail will work through July. Email will work through end of year. We will be pleased to hear from you. :) Ron Randall Pia Oliver Randall House Rare Books ABAA ILAB IOBA 835 Laguna Street Santa Barbara CA 93101 805-963-1909 - www.RandallHouseRareBooks.com [email protected]

This poster is headed "To Dale with our Love, Admiration and Thanks. Derek Jacobi" handwritten in black and blue pen, with the other numerous signatures in red and black ball point pens. The poster was a thank you to one of the sponsors, Dale X of New York, a true admirer of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Preeminent British classical actor of the first post-Olivier generation, Derek Jacobi was knighted in 1994 for his services to the theatre, and, in fact, is only the second ...to enjoy the honor of holding TWO knighthoods, Danish and English (Olivier was the other). He is know for his role as Claudius in the 1970s Television series "I, Claudius", and more recently, "Last Tango in Halifax", among numerous other roles in theatre, television, and film. The Royal Shakespeare Company performed during the 1984-1985 season at the Gershwin Theatre on 51st Street West of Broadway in "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Cyrano de Bergerac." The stars were Derek Jacobi and Sinead Cusack with Christopher Benjamin, Christopher Bowen, Alexandra Brook, Jeffery Dench, Cathy Finlay, Jennie Goossens, Niall Padden, Pete Postlethwaite, Clare Byam Shaw and Phillip Walsh, to just name a few in the cast. $250

From FIRE to FLOODS; Santa Barbarians are going to need to learn some boat-building skills. This is one of the most important books of the eighteenth century on ship designs. af Chapman introduced new mathematical methods of determining the center of gravity for proposed designs. He also had worked out a system of isometric views of design proposals to assist in the accurate transfer of measurements. Life at Randall House is back to normal. We are excited for a new year in book sales and acquisitions. Needless to say, the rains are still a welcome gift for washing the ash out of the nooks and crannies.

The Brontes ... what a family! Do you ever tire of Heathcliffe? No, of course not! We just got a most wonderful set of all the Bronte sisters' writings, and complete with a volume by Mrs. Gaskell about Charlotte Bronte. It's in a beautiful binding and is a treat to hold in your hands.
