MEET LYNN LAWSON, owner of Ralph Opfer Floors My name is Lynn (Opfer) Lawson and I own Ralph Opfer Floors, Inc. I took the store over from my dad Ralph 10 years ago. After working with him for several years he was ready to hand over the steering wheel and retire so I took the challenge. I am one of 7 children and was born and raised in southern California where I lived until I graduated from Norwalk High School. In 1979 at the young age of 18 I was married to Gregg Lawson. We... have 4 children that we have raised and are all grown up and taking on adventures of their own. We also have 6 Grandchildren 5 living in the area and 1 in Spokane. As a mom of 4 children I have tried several lines of work including Cake Decorating for Albertsons, Aqua Aerobics, teaching Cake Decorating, working as room mom and more at the kids school and being a domestic engineer. I enjoy what I do helping people with their homes and I enjoy my family and friends. Life is good!

THE STORY OF RALPH OPFER FLOORS Ralph Opfer Floors started over 30 years ago with a small display inside the local hardware store in Southern California. Pergo laminate flooring was new to the country and Ralph was one of their first dealers. Ralph himself was the only sales person and installer at that time with the occasional help of his son-in-law. The business moved to the Sacramento area in 1999 and was conducted out of Ralph's garage until 2001 when he moved the operati...on to an industrial park in Sacramento and started working with his son and daughter to build the business of selling and installing floors. With the thought of helping consumers Ralph became known as the "Bargain Hunter" to all of his suppliers and would buy all of their closeouts so he would have deals to extend onto his customers. With a warehouse full of inventory you could always come to Ralph and find a bargain. Since then all brands and types of flooring are sold and installed. Ralph retired in 2009 and the store is still open with Ralph's daughter Lynn now at the Helm. With the knowledge she learned from her father, Lynn prides herself in the personal service and the knowledgeable help she offers her customers and there are still several bargains to be found in the Ralph Opfer Floors warehouse. Our staff offers the years of real-world flooring experience and knowledge not often found in the large national chain stores. Because we are locally-owned, we want to help you make the right flooring and installation decisions for your home and ensure your satisfaction for years to come. Because like Ralph taught us, our passion is helping you create the perfect living space for your family.

Care and Maintenance Tips for Carpets _________________________________________ In addition to frequent vacuuming, it's important to clean your carpet on a regular basis. Cleaning systems will remove the oily, sticky soil that vacuums can't take out, and will help keep your carpet looking great over time. **Preventative Maintenance**... Walk-off mats placed at doorways prevent a majority of staining and soiling. **Spot and Spill Removal** Prompt attention to spills will prevent a stain from setting. Visit Ralph Opfer Floors for instructions and view our recommended cleaning product. **Vacuuming** The most important step in caring for your carpet is vacuuming it thoroughly and frequently. **Hot water Extraction or Steam Cleaning?** Removes oils and particulates that accelerate soiling. Ralph Opfer Floors recommends hot water extracting every 12-18 months depending on the traffic in your home. Hot water extraction targets the soil that results from air pollution cooking vapors and tracked-in dirt which can cause gradual but significant dulling of colors over time. The color isn't lost, but is hidden under the film. If this type of soil is allowed to accumulate, it begins to attract and hold the dry soil. The process consists of applying a cleaning agent into the carpet pile and using water in the extractor to recover the used solution and soil. This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside or by a portable system brought into the home. This system is commonly referred to as "steam cleaning," although no steam is actually generated. Whether you choose to hire a professional or do it yourself, make sure the machine used has the CRI Seal of Approval. **Get on a cleaning schedule** Carpet in a typical household should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months, depending on the number of residents and amount of activity. If carpet is cleaned before it becomes too unsightly, the cleaning chore will be easier and more successful.

Time for new flooring in your home? Thinking about carpet? Here are seven points that make it a great choice. 1. STYLE Despite hard surfaces, such as hardwood, taking up many pages of interior design magazines over recent years, carpet has a style all its own. From luxurious and elegant to casual and comfy, carpet can give a space an entirely different feel, just by changing the style of carpet. Consider a short-pile, patterned carpet for a formal room or a long frieze for a ...Continue reading

Thinking of having Hardwood Flooring installed in your home? Wondering about the benefits of such beautiful flooring? Well here are five things to consider. HARDWOOD IS LONG LASTING AND ECOLOGICAL Hardwood flooring not only lasts over 100 years, but it also creates a higher quality air environment. Hardwood flooring does not trap dust, dander, pollen, or other allergens like carpet does.... IT IS ALL NATURAL Solid hardwood flooring has no repeating pattern. Each board is unique, unlike the manufactured, printed pattern on luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and laminates. Additionally, solid hardwood flooring is chemical free, unlike the glue and resin in LVT and laminates. THERE ARE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES The color trends for kitchens changes over the years but the good news is, so can your hardwood floor. Solid hardwood floors can be re-sanded and stained to fit current trends or desires. HARDWOOD INCREASES THE RESALE VALUE OF YOUR HOME Hardwood floors help to increase the resale value of your home by as much as 3%-5% and is a preferred flooring choice among millennials and Gen X’ers. Check out Kiplinger and com/Money and see for yourself. IT IS ACTUALLY COST EFFECTIVE Hardwood flooring can be sanded and refinished multiple times rather than replaced like with other flooring material. You can drastically change your homes look and feel by sanding your floor and applying a stain/oil that is either darker or lighter to match your next design. As you can see, there are many benefits to having hardwood flooring. With more time spent indoors, it is important to think about how hardwood floors can bring the outdoors, inside. Not only can it be sanded and stained for a darker or lighter tone, it is also free of chemicals, hypoallergenic and lasts a lifetime. So if you are interested in having Hardwood Flooring installed in your home, give us a call or stop by our showroom in Rancho Cordova. Because here at Ralph Opfer Floors, our passion is helping you create the perfect living space for your family.

Hardwood Floor Cleaning and Maintenance Here at Ralph Opfer Floors we not only want to help you select the perfect flooring for you home, but also give you information on proper care and maintenance. So here are a few tips for your hardwood flooring. 4 Methods To Clean and Maintain Your Floors... *Choose a soft-bristled broom angled. Take preemptive action to get into corners and wide enough to swiftly do the jobmoving with the grain, of course. *Vacuum with a soft floor nozzle; carpet beaters and brush rolls can damage the finish. Robot vacs do the work for you; shop for one that won’t vacuum itself into a corner and will last at least an hour before stopping to recharge. *Attack sticky debris ASAP with a damp clean cloth, a mini squirt of wood floor cleaner, and a vigorous rub; if you don’t like to crouch, plant one foot on a rag. Lift off dust and pet hair with a microfiber mop head, ideally treated with a positive electric charge so it can capture negative-ion ephemera. Keep the mop head moving, again with the grain. *Use a damp-mop with a flat-head mop and microfiber pad or a microfiber string mop that has been thoroughly wrung out when it looks dingy. Move with the grain, and control the amount of cleaning solution by using a spray bottle, aiming for a heavy mist or gentle squirt of about a half teaspoon per 2 square feet. No need to rinse. No need to buff either, but cloth diapers and soft socks do work well here. 5 Ways to Avoid Major Damage *Don’t ignoring wet or sticky spills. They won’t go away on their own. Did an ice cube just shoot under the table? Go get it. *Don’t bring on the heavy equipment. You can damage the finish by attacking with a broom meant for the garage or a floor-cleaning machine designed for tougher flooring. *Avoid applying the wrong cleaning product. Experts say Murphy Oil Soap can leave a residue on polyurethane. Paste wax simply makes it slippery. As for acrylic polishes that claim to remove the glow while putting more on? They can dull polyurethanejust remove the grime and it will shine. *Be aware of flooding the zone. Standing water and overly wet mops shoot moisture between boards and through tiny tears in the finish that form when wood shrinks and expands with the weather. Over time, moisture can damage the wood. *No steam cleaning. Never on wood. Save it for tile, linoleum, and vinyl.

With the world in the state it is in, we need to support our locally-owned businesses. The corporate-owned big box stores may have what appears to be a larger selection and cheaper prices. But the one thing they do not have is personal attention, care, and concern for the customer you. So shop local and help your locally-owned business stay around to serve you and truly meet your needs.

Here are some helpful suggestions on keeping your Tile & Stone Floors clean, brought to you by Ralph Opfer Floors. Tile and stone floors are perhaps the easiest type of floor to keep clean. ________________________________________________________ DAILY CARE... Sweeping, dusting or vacuuming your floor regularly removes the accumulation of dirt or grit that can scratch or dull the surface. If you choose to use a vacuum, be sure to turn off the vacuum beater brush or raise it so it doesn’t damage the floor. WEEKLY CARE We recommend that you wipe down your floor with a damp mop or a steam mop at least once a week (or more often for heavy traffic areas) with a cleaner made specifically for stone or tile that has a neutral pH. We recommend A hard surface cleaner (for example, Shaw's Hard Surface Cleaner). Just make certain the cleaner you choose is compatible with grout cleaning (neutral pH) and will not stain the grout. BUT DON'T DO THESE THINGS Do not damp mop your newly installed floor for at least 72 hours. Doing so can cause damage to the grout. The grout needs at least 72 hours to dry and cure. Never leave excessive water standing on the floor. Water on the floor is slippery and can leave the floor surface dull. Never use a detergent or soap, because it can dull the surface or promote the growth of mildew. Never use cleaners that contain acids, vinegar, chlorines or ammonia, as these chemicals can damage and discolor the grout or the surface of the stone or tile. Check back for more helpful information on keeping your new floors in great shape.
