Nice article in surface talking about the prize, and the history of the project.

Teeter-Totter Wall is named Design of the Year 2020 by the @DesignMuseum! The project was nominated along with 70 nominees, which included a 3D rendering of the virus causing Covid-19, Lee Ha Jun’s set design from the Oscar-winning South Korean film Parasite, and the union flag stab-proof vest designed by Banksy which was worn by British rapper Stormzy at Glastonbury in 2019. We are totally surprised by this unexpected honor, which we share with the Juarez based art collectiv...e, @ColectivoChopeke. Most importantly, it comes at a time when we are hopeful for change and that we start building more bridges instead of walls. Read about the Design of the Year in the Guardian or visit the Virtual Design Museum at the profile link. Thank you to everyone involved! Love to the families and children of the borderlands. #BeazleyDesignsoftheYear #borderwallasarchitecture #raelsanfratello #seesawdownthewall #noborderwall https://www.theguardian.com//pink-seesaws-across-us-mexico

There is a saying in the borderlands, ‘while the border divides, the land unites. I was fortunate to be part of this initiative and built an horno (traditiona...l mud oven) out of the land itself with a migrant shelter in Nogales, Mexico to bring people together around food and community. WILL YOU JOIN US?: 2.6.21 for the kick off of A Little Piece of Home, a global movement to create and celebrate the connection of communities along the US/Mexico border. The virtual film + food event featuring Charles X Michel will include an interactive cooking demonstration, followed by the world premiere of the @we.are.alight + @BurnersWithoutBorders documentary short that amplifies unity, resilience and hope. #ALittlePieceOfHome REGISTER HERE: https://here.burningman.org/event/pedacito-de-la-tierra @BurnersWithoutBorders / @WeAreAlight / Ronald Rael / Kai Schoenhals / Lina Lyte Plioplyte / Charles X Michel

Last summer, architecture studio Rael San Fratello installed hot-pink seesaws between the slats in the steel fence at the US-Mexico border. For a joyful half an... hour, children from both countries played together. Architecture duo Ronald Rael and Virginia San Fratello reflect on "Teeter-Totter Wall," which offered a different context for considering place and how artists can expand our ideas about home and belonging. mo.ma/3b7EWRU Discover how artists in the #MoMACollection grapple with notions of place and belonging in our free online @coursera course, #WhatIsContemporaryArt.
