Creating a healthy and livable environment for our communities is at the heart of what we doand this all starts with taking care of Earth! As a team, Murraysmith + Quincy supports this ethos through quarterly Campfire sessions where we feature ongoing events and challenges where employees can connect and learn about sustainability, environmental justice, and engage in ongoing events to reduce our environmental impact. This Earth Day, join us in finding and participating in local events registered through Earthday.org (many are virtual!), including activities, discussions, and explorations of how to be better stewards of this planet we call home. #EarthDay2021 #RestoreOurEarth #sustainability

Quincy Engineering, along with the County of San Luis Obispo, is proud to announce that our River Grove Drive at Estrella River Bridge Rehabilitation project has been awarded the APWA Central Coast’s 2020 Project of the Year! This award falls under the Historical Restoration/Preservation category in the $2-$5 million project division. To avoid environmental impacts and complete replacement of this historical 100-year-old truss bridge, the project team investigated a rehabili...tation alternative, resulting in removal and replacement of the bridge deck, lifting the truss off while replacing the foundations and abutments, truss retrofits, and a scrubbing removal of all the lead paint and new paint job of the steel trussultimately preserving a familiar structure for the community. Shout out to our team involved - County of San Luis Obispo, Mark Reno (Project Manager), Scott McCauley (Project Engineer), SWCA Environmental Consultants (Environmental), WRECO (Hydraulics), McMillan Surveying, Inc. (Survey), MNS Engineers, Inc. (Construction Management), and Souza Construction (Contractor). Bridge Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project Originally constructed in 1908, this steel-pin-connected pony truss bridge is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Placesa point of pride for the City of Arroyo Grande, California, and many other project stakeholders. Quincy Engineering completed the feasibility study and PS&E for rehabilitating the bridge to increase its load carrying capacity and address seismic and scour deficiencies while maintaining the br...idge’s distinctive appearanceno small feat! The City, in collaboration with our design team, selected a new supplemental steel truss which supports the existing truss while remaining largely hidden beneath ita strategy which allows the bridge to maintain its historic eligibility. The team held over a dozen public and local committee group meetings to solicit feedback and address public concerns. Because the bridge provides a vital link across Arroyo Grande Creek to businesses located on either side, maintaining pedestrian access during construction was critical to project success. So, Quincy came up with an innovative solution to install a temporary pedestrian truss downstream of the existing truss. A temporary gravity sewer line was suspended under the temporary pedestrian bridge to avoid costly bypass pumping during 10 months of construction. The Bridge Street Bridge Rehabilitation project completed construction last month, giving the historic bridge new life and preserving its past. Thank you to our subconsultants on this project: Yeh and Associates - Geotechnical SWCA Environmental Consultants - Environmental JRP Historical Consulting, LLC - Environmental WRECO - Hydraulics and Revegetation McMillan Land Surveys - Survey MacDonald Architects - Architect

A concrete stem and soffit pour is underway at the La Grange Road Bridge over Dry Creek in Merced County. The existing bridge had a high accident rate, partly due to a limited sight distance on a sharp curve around the hill, and was one of the lowest rated bridges in Merced County. The project involves aligning a new cast-in-place box girder bridge to the existing structure and cutting through the nearby hillside to drastically increase the sight distance and improve traveler safety. Quincy has been working diligently with the County to accelerate this project while navigating a complicated environmental process, which required making repairs to the existing bridge over the course of two seasons while maintaining traffic access and preserving historical artifacts. #mercedcounty #bridgeconstruction #civilengineering

Construction is underway for the Bello Street Bridge in Pismo Beach, California. Originally built in 1913 and closed to the public for over 30 years, the deteriorated truss bridge has been disassembled to make way for a replacement bridge, designed by Quincy Engineering. The new bridge will provide a key link to the City’s recreation fields, connect the bike and pedestrian trails, improve accessibility and response times from local emergency services, and improve access to the US 101 northbound onramp. Steel girder erection is in the books at the Italian Bar Bridge project over Redinger Lake in Fresno County. For five days, 56-foot span steel girders were lifted by cranes from both sides of the bridge and held in the air while the two pieces were spliced to form 148-foot-long girders.
