What if I were to suggest to you that college isn’t the end goal for our children? Would you disagree with me? Would you nod your head in agreement? Would you s...tand and shout Amen? If we are training our children that college is the ultimate goal, we have failed them. Now, I am not against education. I love to learn. I love to teach. I am against the idol of education. I am against the idol of education. I have a child that exceeds every educational requirement. Her desire to learn is inspiring. Her grades reflect her love for learning. I encourage her, support her and praise her efforts and I remind her that it is for God’s glory, not her own. I want her to be proud of her hard work but I want her to realize it’s not the most important work. If I have managed to provide her with every academic opportunity to get her into the most prestigious universities in our country but neglected to introduce her to a living God then I have failed her. If I have created opportunities for her to travel around the world and introduced her to cultures outside of her own but hesitated to teach her about the Savior who walked this earth then I have failed her. If I have taught her all of the history of humankind but neglected to teach her about the darkening of the sky on the day our Savior hung on a wooden cross then I have failed her. If she has achieved the highest honors of academia but never come to understand the humble path that leads to Jesus then I have failed her. The end goal, my friend, is to raise children whose minds and hearts are permeated with the truth of scripture. Then, when the day comes, they can stand before Almighty God and say because I knew Jesus I will enter into heaven. No degree, no worldly achievement, no intellect will open the gates of Heaven. What if I were to suggest to you that college isn’t the end goal for our children? #doHARDthings
