I started my health blog Empowered Sustenance when I was 19, and had just begun healing my "incurable" disease through nutrition. Since the beginning of my blog...ging days, I've shared the scientific literature that conflicted with the mainstream/governmental health advice of the time. As I've continued blogging for the last nine years, the pattern hasn't changed. Governmental health regulations typically reflect paid-science (i.e. pseudoscience), based more on political/financial special interests rather than YOUR best interest. This is important to keep in mind at times like these. Some of you have already been on this questioning/healing journey for a while. For those who are new to questioning the allopathic/mainstream health narrative, you're in the right place! I have some simple, practical, science-based resources for you at Empowered Sustenance. I'd recommend checking out my post, How To Know The Difference Between Science and Pseudoscience https://empoweredsustenance.com/difference-between-science/ Have you recognized this pattern in your own healing journey?

Think about supporting your local food shed during these times. I remember when they opened their first scoop shop in Terra Linda. We were early fans.

We can’t go an hour without hearing about how to protect ourselves from Covid19. Handwashing, gloves, masks, sanitizer, distancing, isolation and distancing. I ...have yet to hear one word from those in charge about what to do WHEN, not IF, we will be exposed- to this or any other virus. And, yes, I am going to address the elephant in the room- and the reason so many are having severe symptoms and dying- chronic, underlying illness. Elderly also have a much higher rate of death, but there are no changes one can make around aging- aging is a privilege that many do not get- and even the older people (myself included) can age with good health. No, we can not fool mother nature and hide from a virus. And while not overcoming hospitals and medical facilities is vital (I have said this from before it was trendy) the VAST majority of the US has no overrun, in fact, most areas are laying off nurses and medical facilities are sitting almost empty. Flattening the curve is important, and in most areas the curve is flat or there was NO CURVE at all. But I digress. This is about protecting OURSELVES and NOT depending upon those in government to do it for us. When I hear the health experts or scientists NEVER talk about REAL health, only virus avoidance, it is yet another example of the lack of either knowledge, or care, for REAL and WHOLE health. Whole health includes ALL health- not just from viruses, but anxiety, depression, and chronic illness. Whole health means making sure we are as strong as we can be when we all go back to work and play. Whole health is making sure we can support those who are struggling. Whole health is being STRONG enough to help others, to serve and to be a light and a LEADER for for others. Strong and OPTIMAL health does not include moderation- especially now. My post yesterday about moderation in nutrtion = moderate health outcomes. Do you want optimal, or moderate? That is the question. 1- Chronic illness is epidemic. The main contributor to chronic illness is processed food. Let me say that again. The MAIN contributor to chronic illness is processed food. We start children on processed foods from a very young age- telling ourselves it is a treat and we don’t do it often. Yet most kids eat some sort of processed food (cereal, mac/cheese, chicken tenders, boxed juice, sugared yogurts, chips, muffins etc) DAILY- sometimes at every meal. This has lead to the sickest generation, the fattest generation and the most chronically ill generation EVER. We MUST eat real food. Adults- if there has EVER been a time to focus on nutrient dense whole food NOW is it. No more excuses of I don’t have time to cook because I am driving kids to sports or it’s so relaxing to eat out. As those over 50 - it may be a LIFE OR DEATH outcome. I know this sounds harsh, and I know I will get pushback, and I am willing to speak TRUTH to shine a light on the elephant in the room. 2- Sunshine and being outdoors is VITAL for good health. We have been sold a pack of lies that the sun is dangerous. LIES. For thousands of years people lived, worked and played in the sun- and yet, as soon as sunscreen was mass marketed the sun became dangerous. Women are even told to wear sunscreen in the house- last I checked most of us have roofs on our homes- so the only reason for that recommendation is to sell sunscreen. Sun on the skin (no sunscreen) stimulates serotonin, the feel-good hormone, and then sets up the process for melatonin at night, for better sleep. Sun produces vitamin D which, protects against cancer and VIRUSES. Sun stimulates the production of healthy hormones -so for those with hormonal issues sun is beneficial. I am not suggesting to go in the noon day sun and get sunburned. No, that is stupid. Do not sit in the heat of the day until you are red and blistered. That is as ridiculous as drinking so much water you drown. An hour in the morning sunshine, with as much skin exposed as possible will help with healthy vitamin D production, balance hormones and help with sleep. It will also help with VIRUS protection fo ALL types. 3- Movement. We are made to move. Please note the word movement, not exercise. Exercise is great- but that is the marketed term of movement. You can move for free. Walk, yoga, strength work, walk, run, stretch, in the sun. Breath DEEP - in fact, one way to keep our lungs healthy is DEEP breathing while moving. Yet when we are sick we are encouraged to lay down- doing the exact opposite of what brings oxygen in the body. We CAN and NEED to do better. Chronic illness WILL bring this country to its knees and it IS the underlying reason for the poor outcomes of most who have a viral infection. #HealthKindness #EatRealFood #SunIsGood
