October 10th is World Mental Health Awareness Day. The World Federation for Mental Health and World Health Organization (WHO) present this day as an occasion to raise awareness of mental health, promote recovery and resiliency, and advocate for access to care. This year’s theme is Mental Health for All, Greater Investment Greater Access. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), one in five adults, as well as one in six youth experiences mental illne...ss in the U.S. each year. During COVID-19, more individuals are facing uncertainty, anxiety, depression, loneliness, or isolation. The stigma around talking about mental health, along with social distancing, can make it difficult to share personal struggles, even with close family and friends. Psychology Works assures you that you are not alone. To learn more about our approaches and treatments or to schedule a free, introductory 15-minute consultation, please call us at 650 -822-8855 or contact us by email at [email protected].

October is ADHD Awareness Month. ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by a pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity, which interferes with a person's development or daily functioning. ADHD emerges in childhood before the age of 12 and often persists into adulthood with a prevalence roughly around 5% in children and 2.5% in adults. ADHD is a complex condition and is often misdiagnosed. It is imp...ortant to seek out a mental health provider with assessment and/or clinical expertise. Our team at Psychology Works recognizes that individuals living with ADHD are not all the same. Typical treatment for ADHD may consist of behavioral therapy, medication, or a combination of both. However, each individual’s symptoms, responses to behavioral/medication treatment, and lived experiences are unique.
