1 word to describe our work in 2020? Resilience. On behalf of our beneficiary partners of our 2020 campaign, "Civic & Political Empowerment," we collectively raised $24,000 to support their work in organizing AAPI communities around key issues. On behalf of our past restaurant/beverage partners in NY, LA, and SF, whose businesses have been heavily impacted by COVID-19, whose support we rely on for Plate by Plate, we raised $12,000 in microgrants.... Amidst a pandemic, separation from loved ones, and injustices toward communities of color, we continued making an impact. Thank you to our supporters and volunteers who made this possible. We're looking for passionate, impact-driven volunteers to help us keep up this momentum with our 2021 campaign - visit our website and learn more today. https://rb.gy/zegjhs

"When it comes to community college, the biggest issue is identitybecause a lot of people don’t associate with their community college compared to a 4-year university. I feel like with proper club funding, it would be easier to foster an actual community." In the 5th episode of the Reclaiming the California Dream podcast, Raymond interviews a student from Ohlone Community College. This student shares his struggles with building community and his vision for how to improve the... community college experience. "As a parent, I’m doing everything I can to give my kids opportunitiesbut I want them to be aware and know that they don’t live in this bubble of opportunity. There are so many other children out there that don’t have these same opportunities so I want them to look outside of their bubble. I think it’s important to recognize that there is a huge disparity between different groups in the community. I think we need to work to close that gap by investing in the whole communit...y and make resources available to all. " In our newest podcast episode, Kathee Nguyen shares how she makes tough decisions as a parent, and explains how her child’s school depends on parent volunteers. https://open.spotify.com/episode/2UaZeP7HSIluIUcloJEnQV

Meet our favorite dynamic duo - Lianna and Tristan! 1. Which PbP Value do you think you embody the most? L: Aspire to Inspire- This value has a multiplier effect and being to apply that to social impact and community work is what keeps me motivated. T: Bringing Something to the Table - One of my personal philosophies is to always be better than the person you were yesterday. Within PbP, it means constantly finding new ways that we can grow and creating incremental goals tha...t we can achieve throughout the year, revisit those goals, and revise to aim higher. 2. How do you encourage bringing out the best in other people? L: I think it's important to create awareness and spread education about social justice issues as well as how they can help by building community, like how we have at PbP. The level of engagement can vary based on one's capacity and what they're comfortable with, but I encourage open discussions and creating inclusive, safe spaces where these can happen. T: In order to engage with our community and bring out the best of them, you have to consistently put something out there that is compelling and relatable. You also need to build trust in your community by being sincere, authentic, and finding different ways other can join and participate. 3. What's your favorite part about working together? L: Tristan has brought a lot of deep knowledge and experience in the nonprofit space to PbP and I've appreciated his dedication. He's also been so willing to leverage his connections and prioritize his time for us to truly change the definition of Fundraising at our org and I couldn't be happier to have him on my team. T: Lianna brings a lot to the organization, her thoughtfulness and leadership is helping us create a foundation to a better PbP. I admire the professionalism that she brings to PbP as a national organization, and somehow we still manage to have a lot of fun. I couldn’t image doing all that we have accomplished without her.

Are you registered to vote? In honor of #nationalvoterregistrationday, we’re excited to share our latest episode of our Reclaiming the California Dream podcast. https://open.spotify.com/episode/73cub22EsNJJSpHemFkgbi This week we interviewed policy researcher EJ Toppin, who breaks down how California politicians have used taxation policy as a veil to perpetuate racial inequality.... Did you know - "Securing White racial advantage played a large part of public policy decision-making. These histories built conditions that we live under today." In our discussion, EJ shares, "Prop 15 is one way to turn the tide, to change the narrative, and to change how policy making occurs in the State. To reorient that toward the people and our communities. Putting communities first can be a rallying point in this movement. The fight doesn’t stop after Election Day. I believe the movement is on the right path." If you haven’t registered yet, do it today! Join us at the polls this November https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/register-to-vote/
