It has been sometime since my last post, but the #365+1 goes on. I can hardly believe I am over 1/3 of the way done with this chapter. These images are back from early March. I was on jury duty in Madera. I have always been excited to photograph places in disrepair. Within their rugged nature, the composition, shapes, and uniqueness grab my attention.

I spent a large portion of my adult life sleeping in way past the sunrise, and working during many of the sunsets. Light was something I had never really taken the time to appreciate. That changed when I had the chance to work with a group of incredibly talented photographers at West Coast Imaging. They helped me see how light changes everything, how light itself, is a photograph worth making. With this years #365+1 project, I have been trying to see light, in many ways. These are a few of the recent images.

I really like this quote my talented friend Terrance Reimer shared, it is so true. I love the work of Ernst Haas, if you have never seen his photographs, you should.

Some of my earliest memories of photographs (outside of old family ones) are the pretty picture with a motivational phrase type that could be found in schools and doctors offices. There always seemed to be a grand scene that was topped with a positive message. As I was preparing for my #365+1 project this year, I really found myself motivated to push myself in new directions. I thought back on these old "pictures with a message" from my past and thought I might play around wi...th creating a few of my own. This image is from 1/9/2020. Sometimes it is hard to see the light beyond the darkness that is in front of us. I have been in that place at different times in my life, including as of late. Challenging situations or people can darken our view, however if we make the choice to look past that, light is there, and it shines with possibilities. Seek the LIGHT

In the fall of 2009, I found myself in a strange place. I was in a rut, I was feeling flat, uncreative, and overall pretty blah. After seeing a large photograph that contained a picture of the sunset from everyday of the year (not sure what year it was created), my wheels started turning. I decided I would do a year long photo project that would be called "Change". It would require me to take a photograph of something everyday for the full calendar year of 2010, a 365 project.... That year turned out to have more "change" in store for me than I ever could have imagined. I was dedicated to it, and completed the project. Some days it was easy, others not so much, but in the end, I was super happy I tackled it. Fast forward to the holidays of 2014, I found myself inspired, and decided my "change" project was not complete. One chapter was not enough, but rather six chapters were needed, and it should be done once every five years. So 2015, another year that was filled with "change" far beyond my dreams, I again photographed everyday, another 365. As 2020 approaches, it is time for the third chapter in the greatest photo project of my life. I can't wait to see the "change" and the photographs of this new year. Make sure to follow along on my page, to see some of the highlights. See more

A few samples from last nights shoot. I haven't been on the YHS campus in soooo long, it was crazy to see how different it is. These are just a few from the night. We also got a bunch from the football field, and others in dress clothes. #classof2020 #YHS #Badgers #Alumni with Steven Dugovic

Last week I had the chance to walk around Burbank for a few days. It has been a while since I last spent time with my camera, it felt fantastic. Being out and chasing the light as it fades away at the end of the day is so good.
