We extend our thanks to Random House Children's Books for their recent book donation so that scholars at The Preuss School UC San Diego can build their home libraries. More than 850 books were contributed so that scholars can strengthen their literacy skills, explore topics of diversity and foster intergenerational reading with family and community members.

Our own Dr. Phil Ensberg and two of our scholars, Klarissa and Sieyem, were featured on CBS8 news last evening! The segment focused on how STEAM learning inspires scholars to tap into their curiosity and get creative while learning remotely. Middle school students invented their own Rube Goldberg machines, which demonstrate the transference of energy in a fun way.

The California Department of Education has named The Preuss School a 2021 California Distinguished School! These schools are great examples of California’s commitment to provide outstanding public education for all students, and their data-driven efforts have helped ensure that their students leave with the tools and skills they need to be successful after graduation, said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond.

Congratulations to Preuss 8th grade scholar Aron Ekubaselase who was named as San Diego County’s runner up winner in today’s Spelling Bee, hosted by the San Diego Union-Tribune. The event was held virtually, with 37 middle school contestants competing on a Zoom call for the county championship. Contestants tackled an array of botanical, zoological, scientific, architectural, technical and culinary terms. #PreussProud According to Aron, The spelling bee started off easy and fun, but even as it slowly grew more intense, it was still fun. I had prepared for the spelling bee every day, and I'm okay coming out as a runner up. This experience was great, and I am happy I had the chance to do this.
