Even with the best skin care habits and moisturizers we are sometimes left with dry, itchy skin. Consider adding a humidifer to your home to add moisture to the air and your skin. Click on the link provided by Consumer Reports to learn more about choosing humidifers.

Well, the hub bud about sunscreens continues. We have been getting a lot of questions! The Environmental Working Group has just come out with their 2010 recommendations. They do a very thorough evaluation of the products which is great. They are right when they say that the FDA does not keep a close enough eye on over the counter products such as sunscreens. However, there are many products out there that are made by good companies that use very careful quality control over... the manufacturing. In addition, the comment that many sunscreens do not adequately protect against UVA is deceiving. It is true that a high SPF only tells you how much you will be protected against UVB which is what burns, but anything labelled broad spectrum also offers UVA coverage. Look for Parsol, Mexoryl or Helioplex as ingredients. But in order to get really good, all day protection from UVA and UVB need a sunblock with at least 7-9 % titanium or zinc . All of the products the EWG recommends have much more than this. The trouble is the higher the concentration, the whiter and more opaque the product gets. So for many of us a compromise is necessary. Some of the chemical ingredients they caution against are easy to avoid. Octinoxate is a chemical that they feel is better than some and when put into sunscreens adds significant protection. This is the ingredient in addition to Zinc or Titanium the ELTA MD products we sell here. But maybe the best way to look at all of this is to be flexible. If you can find a product that you like for daily use that does not have chemical sunscreens then use it! Start with their list or the Elta MD physical block that we have here. If you cannot find anything you like, then try the products that have a combination of zinc or titanium and Octinoxate. And if you will be out all day, then switch to a product that offers maximum protection, is waterproof AND wear hats, clothes, etc! And do use a lot of product. They are right about that! http://health.usnews.com//is-sunscreen-dangerous-4-sun-pro http://www.ewg.org//best-beach-spor/moisturizers-with-spf/
