My friend Ken Klopman had been suggesting to me for many years to volunteer for Royal Family Kids Camp. If you are not familiar, the camp is for kids in foster care. Two weeks ago, I was one of the camp photographers. I got to photograph 52 kids spending 5 days in the mountains making crafts, swimming, zip lining, wall climbing, etc, etc, etc. Each child took home a photo book of their experiences. Remember, these are kids who may not have anything of their own, let along any... photos of themselves. I am not so naïve to think that one week in camp made all of the fear, loneliness, pain and all of the other negatives that made them be in foster care go away. But I definitely saw joy, happiness, and I think a little bliss on their faces during camp. And I can only hope and pray that camp changes their lives at least a little bit for the better, because it certainly changed mine. Attached are a few photos. Since the kids are in foster care their faces have been fuzzed out.
