Shanah Tovah to all our family and friends celebrating Rosh Hashanah this weekend!
At Portola Gardens - we don't let wearing a mask keep us from SMILING. You can see our smiles in our eyes! Meet Tupu Tupu is one of our trusted care partners. She has not let the restrictions stop her from engaging with residents - gardening, arts and crafts or just hanging out. When asked why she does this work she says " it's simple, this is like my home and the residents are like family. We care for each other".

Passing along this story- which you may find of interest. Glen Campbell, beloved country music star and Rhinestone Cowboy, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011. He passed away on August 8, 2017. Throughout his life, Glen demonstrated how the power of love, laughter and music helped him overcome many obstacles. Today, his widow Kim Campbell continues to celebrate Glen’s legacy. Here she shares an excerpt from her new book, released June 23, entitled Gentle On My Mind: In Sickness and in Health With Glen Campbell, chronicling their bond and the challenges they faced while navigating Glen’s brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease
All week we at CiminoCare have been celebrating Father’s in honor of Father’s Day. We have posted heartfelt stories written by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren telling us how much they love and appreciate the patriarchs in their lives including our own caregiver Noel. From a poem to photos, they have expressed how much dad means to them, and we couldn’t agree more! We wish each and every father a wonderful Father’s Day.
Leading up to Father's Day we are highlighting a care partner who is also a dad! Here at Portola Gardens, our working moms and dads have braved the challenge of work and family all throughout the COVID-19 crisis. It’s been really hard, not too see your kids, says Portola Gardens care partner, Noel Canoy, a single dad who split his home in two during the pandemic. Canoy, a father of two girls, 11 and 16, stayed in his own room did not see his girls except to say ‘hi’ as he ...left for work. The hardest thing for him about the crisis is his inability to hug his girls. Despite everything, the family has persevered, says Canoy. Both the girls are very capable, and his older daughter helps out with the younger one when needed. My kids know the limitations, says Canoy. He only has to remind the girls to do their homework and they complete it. What gets him through the extra challenges at work is being a dad. Every morning each day, my kids are there, says Canoy, adding that seeing them at the beginning of each day makes it all worth it. We thank all our dads this Father’s Day for the sacrifices they have made to stay working and take care of our residents through the pandemic. See more
Thank you to all of our family members and friends for your continued support and patience. We have been working very hard to keep residents and staff safe and healthy. This has come with many inconveniences and sacrifices to residents, staff and family members. Many of you are seeing your retail, restaurants and downtowns opening up as officials lift Stay at Home orders. Because we serve the most susceptible and vulnerable to COVID 19 we are opening outside services and ...visitation much slower. The Governor's plan has our communities as part of the Phase 4 opening plan. However, we are following the County and CDC guidelines which are allowing us to begin to look at easing a couple of restrictions if we can continue to practice social distancing, wearing masks, infection control and symptom screening. In the next couple of weeks we will be offering limited and schedule family visits. During the scheduled visit we will set up a comfortable outdoor area where family members can visit with their loved one. There will be specific rules that everyone must follow to keep all residents safe and healthy. - Everyone must wear face coverings (unless it is not safe to do so), - remain at least 6 feet apart ( we know this will be hard) and - perform hand hygiene before and after their visit. - Visitors and residents will have their temperature checked and symptoms screened prior to the visit. - Visitors should not bring food, gifts or supplies during the visit. This virus is still around and is very contagious. We remain diligent in all of our efforts. As we add additional visits and programs, we will need your help more than ever in following the safety restrictions and listening to team members' instructions. If we have any positive cases in our community we will need to discontinue all modified programs and go back to full self quarantine. We believe that if we are all diligent, together we can do this. We will be sending out more detailed information to family members shortly. https://www.ciminocare.com/updates-on-our-response-to-covi/
Over this past weekend, we celebrated and were thankful for all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Freedom is not free-- we Honor, Respect and Remember them everyday, beyond Memorial Day.
