On a daily basis, the animal Shelter holds a large number of friendly and beautiful dogs seeking a nice home and an owner they can be loyal to. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please visit the shelter facility in Lindsay or look at photographs of the dogs in our care by clicking on the link below : https://www.adoptapet.com/dog-adoption/search/50/miles/93247 The Porterville Animal Control Unit is responsible for the enforcement of various ordinances (laws) that regulate animals. For example, the City Of Porterville has a requirement that pet owners keep their dogs confined to their property, or keep them on a leash. By Ordinance, all dogs in the city limits are required to be vaccinated against Rabies and licensed (with certain exemptions), including mandatory spay and neuter. The Animal Control Unit handles the issuance of dog licenses and this can be done for a nominal fee. Click on the link below for a City of Porterville Dog License Application. http://www.ci.porterville.ca.us///documents/doglicense.pdf To read fully the City Of Porterville ordinance with regard to animals click on the link below and navigate to Chapter 5 - Animal Control. https://www.sterlingcodifiers.com/codebook/index.php The Animal Control Unit always accepts help from the public. Ways to help include: - Donate food, blankets, supplies or materials to the shelter to keep animals comfortable. - Donate funds for shelter equipment or towards the spaying and neutering of animals in our shelter. All of us here at Porterville Animal Shelter would like to thank the Osborn family. The Osborn's adopted Calvin from us back in 2010 and since then have stayed in contact with us for the past 9 years. They are such a wonderful family and Calvin has been living the best life a dog can ask for. He goes on many wonderful adventures and is very loved and spoiled, as it should be. We could not be happier for Calvin and the Osborn Family. Besides all that happy news, every year the Osborn's send us a gift which has ranged from a popcorn maker, goodies, chocolates, and even a bench where people can sit and bond with a dog. The Osborn's have been so kind and gracious and we appreciate them so much. Kindness certainly goes a long way. May you have many more wonderful days with Calvin and may the adventures continue.

We would like to thank Robin with Norcal German short haired pointer rescue for rescuing Sierra. Sierra came into our facility with an injury to her hip/ back leg and could not bare full weight on it and would limp. She was seen by our Vet who did X-rays and found nothing on there, but though it might be soft tissue damage. In the meantime we kept Sierra as comfortable as we could here and gave her meds until Colleen came to her rescue and transported her to Robin. Now Sierra is being seen and treated by their vet. She will be loved and cared for until she can be altered and find her forever home. Thank you Robin and Colleen. Hope you find her the best home ever! She is such a sweet dog and deserves the best and we know you'll give her just that.

*****UPDATE.....ZEKE WAS ADOPTED ON SATURDAY (8/24/2019). WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST WITH YOUR NEW FAMILY****** Zeke is the last dog from the euthanasia list that we posted last month. He is a great dog, but is a big dog with lots of energy that needs lots of activity. He pulls on the leash so will need someone to have patience and work with him on the leash. He has tested well with other dogs, but is very active around them. He is a beautiful dog that needs someone to c...ome along and love him. He just needs to learn his own strength, he does not realize how strong he is. One of our volunteers walked him around Pet Smart during our last adoption event and he did very well. He loves to chase a ball and once he's tired out, he will lay in your lap. There is a special adoption fee for Zeke of $50 which includes him being neutered, vaccinated, rabies vaccination, microchip, & dog license if you live within city limits of Porterville. Please come out and visit Zeke and give him a chance, he will be waiting to meet you. See more

Hi, my name is Quinn and I'm a male Australian Shepherd mix around 2 1/2 years of age. I am Pet of the Week here at Porterville Animal Shelter. I'm a very good boy and I listen well. I walk well on a leash and ride well in a car, I like car rides. I'm a smart dog and learn fast and would love to find my forever loving home. It has been hot and lonely here at the shelter. There have been quite a few people that come by to look at all the dogs, but I keep getting passed up and I don't know why. I sit so patiently in my kennel for people to come by and see what a good boy I am, but they just keep walking and it makes me sad. I would love to play, go on walks and adventures, and have lots of cuddle time with you. I hope you'll come out to see me... I know you'll fall in love with me. I'll be right here waiting to meet you.

Porterville Animal Control Shelter 14.06.2020

Hi, my name is Faith and I’m an approximately 2 year old female chihuahua/ dachshund mix. I was originally at the Porterville Animal Shelter back in April and was adopted on 4/20/2019 then brought back on August 16th because my adopters didn’t have time for me. I have since gotten quite attached to one of the Shelter staff and didn’t like when she left my side at the adoption event on Saturday at Pet Smart. I walk very well by your side, even without a leash. She took me home... with her to see how I would do around other dogs and cats and guess what...? I did super duper awesome and passed with flying colors and she was so proud of me. I hung out with big dogs, small dogs, and cats and just loved to play. We all went out on an adventure and I had soooo much fun. We all got to run around, chase a ball (I really loved chasing a ball), and I got to play in the water and I really really loved the water. I listened when she called me to come and she would tell me what a good girl I am and give me lots of kisses. I even enjoyed swimming in the pool with her, but only if she was holding me. When we went home I ate some really yummy food and then went to sleep inside her house in a really super comfy bed and I had the most wonderful dreams from my adventure that day. I had such a great day and would love to live more days like that. My foster mom says I run like the wind....I might be short and stocky, but I’m mighty and fast as lightning. I also love car rides and like to look out the window. I would love to find my forever home with a life like I lived in just that one day. I hope my forever people are out there reading this thinking, Oh my goodness, that’s the perfect little girl for us, let’s go get her! I would need a home where you would have time for me because I love to play and don’t like being left alone all the time and I would need to be allowed to live inside as part of the family....not as a yard ornament. I hope to see you soon, I’ll be here waiting for you. Love, Faith See more
