Hi everyone! My name is Diana Truong (she/her), and I’m a first-year student at @pomonacollege... I’m undeclared but interested in studying Neuroscience on the pre-med track. I’m involved with FLI (First-Gen Low Income) Scholars (@flischolars.pomona), @aamp.pomona (Asian-American Mentor Program), VSA (Vietnamese-Student Association), and Pomona Science Scholars. I’m very interested in community engagement, healing intergenerational trauma, and imagining a future of col...lective care. This semester at home, I’ve loved being able to go to the Minneapolis Farmers’ Market every weekend and brainstorm recipes with the change of seasons. In my free time, I love yoga, creative writing, and taking care of my 11 succulents. While I can’t wait to be back on campus, the people are truly the best part of Pomona. I’ve loved being part of this community that prioritizes building meaningful connections across so many different backgrounds. Pomona is packed with brilliant professors and talented students, but the community is most defined by how compassionate people are. Not only is everyone super smart, but they’re also the nicest. Being a pre-med student, the collaborative, liberal arts curriculum encourages (if not necessitates) working together. I feel empowered to be in a community that creates space for expansive, critical thought, regardless of what you’re studying or where you want to go. I’ve also found it incredibly important that there are resources and spaces that support me as a low-income student of color. I truly do feel cared for by the people I’ve met (and have yet to meet) here at Pomona and across the @theclaremontcollegesofficial.

Originally from Minneapolis, he currently lives on the territory of Ngti Whtua Orkei in Tmaki Makaurau, where he is pursuin...g a master’s degree in Indigenous studies at Te Whare Wnanga o Tmaki Makaurau in New Zealand. Hi, I'm Rosie, I'm a sophomore at Pomona, and I am a double major in Theatre and Economics. This combination is usually pretty surprising to people...and honestly, it is just as surprising to me sometimes! I came into Pomona super undeclared: not having any idea what I'd major in. I had done theatre all through middle and high school, but expected it to be more of a hobby. And I had never done economics, and had virtually no interest in it. But my first semester at Pomona c...hanged everything! I took an acting class that was unlike anything I had ever done before; I learned so much about myself and connecting with others, as well as the academic side of acting That same semester, I took a basic macroeconomics course, not expecting to like it--I just felt like it was something I should try at least once, since I never did it in high school. And I fell in love. For me, this was the perfect combination of two majors. My mathematical side and my artistic side. Pure creativity combined with business sensibility. Most of all, something that will prepare me for the future, whether I go into performing, theatre management, the business of the theatrical industry, or anything else. When I am not working on one of my majors, you can find me participating in events through Claremont Hillel, CLDC, Reverb, Circus Club, and OTL, as well as the theatre and dance departments. Of course, this is all when I am not busy running Spotlight MT, the 5C's only student musical theatre company, which I founded last semester. (Yes, I am an overcommitted workaholic, but I love everything I do and it is so worth it to me!) I am so grateful to be able to have all these opportunities at Pomona. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. If you ever see me around campus, make sure to say hi! As "tour guide-y" as it sounds (guilty as charged), Pomona really does offer a college experience like no other. You get an amazing liberal arts education, second to none, making Pomona students well-informed and compassionate humans ready to handle whatever the world throws at them. And you also get this experience underneath the California sun... it really is the perfect school!

Hey everyone! My name is George Axarlis ‘24 and I am from Thessaloniki, Greece. I am a first year at @pomonacollege and probably I will major in economics but I also love history as well as my math so I am not 100% sure if I will add something to the game! I am part of the Claremont Business Group (@claremontbusinessgroup_) and when we get back to campus I am looking forward to joining the Debate Team since right now the time zones do not work so well . I love anything ...that has to do with physical activity, particularly basketball and working out. I also enjoy listening to music, without any particular genre in mind (I pretty much listen to any song I find that I like), and play the saxophone and the piano. I am super excited to meet you all! I choose Pomona because of the community that it offers. Everything and everyone around you (even in virtual form) guarantees that you are member of a common supportive family Pomona is able to support you in any of your endeavors (both related to financial aid but most importantly related to funding during your four years) Staff and professors are always there for you. You will realize that after the many emails sent by staff just to make sure that everything is fine or after seeing the availability of professors to meet with you even one to one to discuss about the class or anything really. Pomona has many resources to ask for help. We have mentors to help you with specific classes, writing or speaking skills, or even matters related to wellness. At Pomona, asking for help it is not a sign of weakness. It is expected and it is rewarded. I don't yet know if admissions has a secret recipe of selecting super collaborative students, or if all of the above have played a role, but all Pomona students are also super collaborative and there for you. This is my Why Pomona!

Meet #AdmissionsAmbassador Alejandro Tovar ’22 (Fontana, CA), who is studying Biology at @pomonacollege and hopes to become a pediatrician! [I first discovered Pomona through] @payspomonacollege a program for high-achieving, low-income students from under-resourced high schools in Southern California. PAYS is ~easily~ how I fell in love with Pomona. I had never heard of the school before but after getting to spend three summers there as a high school student, I knew it was... the perfect school for me. Small class sizes, access to an entire consortium and getting to be 20 minutes away from home?! Being the first in my family to go to college made the application process a frustrating, confusing time; I had no idea what I was doing and it was through the guidance that I got with PAYS that I was even able to navigate things like writing a personal statement or understanding a financial aid offer. @FLIscholars has been a huge part of my experience at Pomona and one of the first places where I found a community through the awesome mentoring program and events they set up to assist first years, and all other FLI (first generation and/or low income) students, find a home at Pomona. I’ve also found a home through the @drapercenter for community partnerships, where I have been a teaching assistant (TA) and college advisor for PAYS! I’ve also gotten to take part of some of their other programs like AlternaBreak where I got to go to New Orleans to work with a nonprofit working with families on the long-lasting effects of Hurricane Katrina. Pomona Science Scholars (PSS) was how I found my way into the sciences at Pomona [I take classes] alongside students who are either FLI or had not had much experience with science before Pomona. I also got to conduct research on campus the summer after my first year with the amazing Professor Sara Olson, [and an] amazing opportunity to present my findings at a science conference in Honolulu! I also love to longboard around campus (downhill is a lot funner than uphill) and hang out with friends s If we’re not embarrassing ourselves on TikTok we’re probably playing video games or volleyball with the 5C Club Team or on Marston!
