Repost from @cppbac Please read below for a copy of the message Sylvia Alva, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Christina Gonzales, Vice President for Student Affairs, emailed to the CPP community this evening: On July 6, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security published new guidance that modifies temporary exemptions that were in place for students with F-1 and M-1 visas taking online courses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fall 2020, those ...students who attend schools offering a mixture of online and in-person classes, such as Cal Poly Pomona, will be held to federal regulations that prohibit them from taking all their courses online. This recent announcement is upsetting and raises questions and concerns that we are working to address. Please be assured that Cal Poly Pomona remains committed to supporting our international students and scholars. The university is working closely with the California State University Chancellor’s Office to determine the best way to support international students, facilitate their continued academic progress, and adhere to the federal guidance. We will provide information as soon as possible on our specific plans to help our incoming and returning students adhere to these new rules while continuing their academic journey at Cal Poly Pomona. The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) will reach out to incoming and returning international students to schedule one-on-one advising appointments. You may also visit the ISSO website regularly for updates. Students who need mental health and wellbeing support can contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). In these challenging and stressful times, please remember that we are a Bronco community and we can rely on our friends and colleagues. Although we are physically apart, we will continue to be a supportive and inclusive community for all our Broncos. See more
