Sharing this casual, yet cathartic convo I had with @xtinehlee1 in the days after Pollinate's brick and mortar was shuttered. Part of her new podcast series. Take a listen. Some tea was spilled. =========== Reposted from @xtinehlee1 Today is the day I release my energy to the world. I am printing out my novella length novel right now to read before subbing to my editor. And I launched my #frontyardpolitics #podcast about seeing the world through #urbanfarming (a spin off of my #BackyardPolitics column at @catapult)! Link in profile. Listen. Subscribe. Share.
One of the things I'll miss most about Pollinate as a brick-and-mortar is our team. We were each so different, and each one had a superpower. Zack @dyatica had many. His best one (besides his epic take on the Papi Chulo pizza sauce) is his curiosity and ability to reimagine. We vibed from the very start. We shared many adventures in urban farming, and I loved having long conversations with him, especially when they began with his signature "What if?". What if, indeed! I'm so ...proud of you! Thank you, friend. Pollinate is so much better because of you. Read about where Zack's superpowers will be taking him next! ============= Reposted from @dyatica I think most of you know that I graduated this spring, and I think most are aware that I spent a lot of my time working on @sea_warden, a project that combines everything I’m passionate about: sustainability, food systems, marine conservation, and technology. My team and I have been quietly working all summer and waiting for the right moment to share the news. We’re working on a tool that will empower small-scale aquaculture producers (aka ocean farmers) around the world, while advancing sustainability and transparency of the farmed seafood industry (the source of half of all seafood). We were selected by HATCH, an aquaculture technology program to receive a $130K investment and to join their 4-month program in Hawaii!!! We’ll be moving to the Big Island in September. I can’t express how grateful I feel for the opportunity to continue working on a project focused deeply on helping people and the planet through the angle of food production and marine conservation. Follow our journey @sea_warden or read more about our latest accomplishments here bit.ly/sw_08_20 @photojaph3

My brother @blaqwest is an avid angler, and has been since we were kids. Every time he goes out, whether it's on the shore, out on the bay, or on the lake in his boat, I pray he comes home safely. Don't get me wrong; he was trained well by our father, and can handle just about any situation that a day on the water throws at him. But not this. Racism is everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Read [link in bio at @brownfolksfishing] and learn. And oh yes, act. -Y #Repost @brownf...olksfishing READING THE WATER FOR RACISM IN FISHING [LINK IN BIO FOR FULL ARTICLE] By @joel_r_johnson for @anglingtrademedia - an exerpt: "...I don’t expect the white anglers learning about Brown Folks Fishing and the courageous act of The Orvis Company becoming the first co-signer to this Pledge to agree with anything I’ve just shared, because that’s precisely the point of systemic racism. It continues to work when no one thinks it does (kinda like the Devil). And when it’s not systemic, it’s just plain old everyday violence. You may not believe in the Devil, but racism believes in you." CONTINUE READING - LINK IN BIO @outdoorceopledge @teresabaker11 @brownfolksfishing @orvisflyfishing @orvis @flylords #fuckracism
