Like many other things in U.S. History that are fabricated to fit white America’s agenda, Memorial Day is another one to add to the never-ending list. Did you know that the first Memorial Day observance was actually started by former enslaved Africans in Charleston, SC in 1865 to honor and provide a proper burial to union soldiers (who were prisoners of war) that lost their lives in the Civil War? To our brothers and sisters who fought and sacrificed their lives for the people (willingly and unwillingly), we remember, honor and pay our respect #MemorialDay

Did you know that over 100,000 people are injured or killed by gun violence each year? This number disproportionately affects Black and Latinx communities. We’re joining our partners at Live Free in support of #FundPeace to end gun violence in our most vulnerable cities by implementing community-led gun violence prevention initiatives. It’s always been bigger than basketball always been bigger than sports. This week began the new season of the WNBA and brought to us the story of a WNBA sports revolution told to us by the players themselves. 144, a film executive produced by Los Angeles Sparks power forward Chiney Ogwumike, tells the story of the 2020 WNBA Bubble Season where these valiant women not only played through a pandemic without family, friends or fans, but also used their platforms to stand up fo...r a series of racial injustices. We salute these women for leading the movement like never before, while putting their careers on the line to stand up for what is right when no other organization was bold enough to do so as a collective. In light of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we’re highlighting the inspiring story of former NBA star Metta World Peace and his journey to overcoming his own mental health disorder. Mental health disorders, like any other health disorder, take acknowledgment, time and care to see progress. Last May, we partnered with Live Free to produce a weekly series called #MasksForThePeople a direct action taken to raise funds to address the lack of Covid-19 preventative care and resources being made available to our loved ones in jails, urban areas and poor rural communities.
