SAD PLANET BOOKS NEWS Beverly Cleary (April 12, 1916 March 25, 2021) This week we lost a literary giant, Beverly Cleary. She was born in 1916, and passed away this week at 104. To the few younger readers that may not know who she was, (in this modern age with more computer and phone time and less real books) she was a children`s writer that wrote of kids riding their bikes and playing on the lawn and sidewalks after school. And getting into little bits of innocent trouble. For me, as a little guy, I would check and re-check these books out of the library. Very recently, I found these two books and re-read them for the pure pleasure of the memory of my childhood...I wasn't disappointed, nor would the first lucky person to come by, and for a pittance relive some literary memories of their own.

PROGRESS INCHES ALONG AT PLANET BOOKS! Hi everybody! The new showcases (new to us) have arrived, and the hard cover mystery section is coming along nicely. But there are still hundreds and hundreds of boxes yet to be put out. We're still looking for book cases and trying to figure where to hang all the framed photos, pictures, and paintings. So, sorry I haven't posted lately but with all the new acquisitions, we will be giving you more updates. Meanwhile, come on in, and or read more books!

A PLANET BOOKS UPDATE! Hi everybody! Some of you have called us up and asked, "when are you going to open your doors...for crying out loud?" Well, we`re still not sure, but hoping in April. We are here every day from 11 am to 4 pm , and while there is a daily progress, sometimes it`s hard to see, there are so many books. New shelves (to us) will soon be delivered, and four big lighted showcases will follow. The literature is up and the art is getting there. If you are "Jonseing" for our company, stop on by, we might even recognize you. (covid humor) As always, be active, or read a good book.

ONGOING PLANET BOOKS STUFF! Hi everybody! Instead of book news, we thought you might want to see some of the fun robots and space toys that we will have for sale and your viewing pleasure. Nearly all these toys will be within the beginning collectors` price range. What better to go with your science fiction book collection or library?? Try reading a sci-fi or fantasy book at your earliest chance! Don`t know what, we`ll help you out.

CONTINUING PLANET BOOKS NEWS! Hi everybody! Sorry we haven't been posting lately but we`re back at filling the shelves with great books and toys, with lots more goodies for the future. A lot of people from the old store have been popping in lately to see how we are, (including Claudia and Matthew). We still don't know when we will be able to open but in the meantime, we`re always happy to see old faces. (masked of course) As always, we hope you are reading a good book

PLANET BOOKS PROGRESS! Hi Everybody! The new store is moving along nicely. Mike is back and assembling an army of robots and we just put up the smaller Planet Books sign above the small door. This upcoming week we`ll be putting together the book shelves and the rest of the cases. Anyway, we`ll keep you posted. Confucius says "read lots of good books"*... *He didn't really say that but we do!

AN END OF THE YEAR PLANET BOOKS UPDATE! Hi everybody! Sorry, I have been away from the computer for the last several days. A little vacation away from the store to take care of some of the behind the scene things that needs to be done when moving to a new location. (and sleeping in) So this is the new place. After the 1st, Mike will be making his triumphant return after his sabbatical, and we will be designing the store with some of the old flavor and new ideas. We have an em...pty slate with lots of room to add all the things we only talked about. Here are some photos of the the old, and new Planet Books, and we will continue with more photos as the store begins to take shape. You are of course welcome to stop by and see that we are up to, just call first to make sure we`re here. Have a safe and Happy New Year, and read a good book!

MORE PLANET BOOKS NEWS! Sorry folks, we couldn't quite get it all moved today but we got an extension until tomorrow at 3 pm. We still need some boxes and a little muscle but there IS light at the end of the tunnel. If you are out there Bryan N., are you up for one last go at it? Also, there's no internet from the store until the 23 rd so no photos of the new store (in progress) until then. That will give us all plenty of time to read a book.

A PLANET BOOKS UPDATE! Everyone that has come in to help box the books today, has been incredible. So much so that we're running out of boxes. Anyone that has a few extras laying about is MORE than welcome to bring them in. Thank you very much. If not, we hope you're reading a book.

Another PLANET BOOKS Update! Hi everybody, as you know, we are packing for the big move...but there are so darn many books...Anyway, just wondering if there are a few of you that would like to earn a few good karma points and a swell gift (book?) in the future foe some help boxing some books today - or tomorrow? The big cases and shelves need to be empty by Wednesday night and I`m beginning to panic. Great if you can, and if not, go read a book!

Happy Thanksgiving from Planet Books and TWA If you were in an airplane today, I wonder what kind of food they would serve. Back in the early 1960's, the experience might be remembered for a lifetime. And on a holiday such as this, we should all hope to be with our family and friends. If that's not the case this year, then definitely with a good book. Bon Appetit!

PLANET BOOKS UPDATE! Hi everybody, we may have found a new location. We scoured the streets of Long Beach, Seal Beach, and Signal Hill to find the perfect spot for our store but nothing was quite perfect, so we decided to think outside the box (or inside) and decided to try something entirely different. It`s a warehouse just across the Signal Hill border at 1855 Freeman Ave., just above PCH, and right next door to the Long Beach Antique Mall II. It`s about a mile from where we are right now. It is a huge building with lots of potential. We will still be here at the old location for at least another 30 days so I hope to see many of you soon. As always, thank you and READ MORE BOOKS!

Continuing Planet Books update! Hi everybody, we have been looking for another location for the store but so far the buildings have been too big, too small, or the rent is too much. (I sound like Goldilocks) We would like to stay in the area we are in now but if we need to move farther away, would you still come? How many miles would you travel to see us? Please comment below. Thanks for all your sympathy and well wishes. we`ll be leaving a little early tonight (5 pm) to brainstorm and process our options. Meanwhile, does anybody know of a good building nearby in a nice neighborhood for rent?

The Planet Books news that we all feared! We just got the bad news, the building will be out of escrow in one week and we met with the new owners today. They have informed us that we have 30 days to get out. No time to even have an advertised sale, or look for anything else in property to lease. We may have a tiny bit longer but time is running out! We will be giving really nice deals on nearly everything in the store, so come soon--come often!

MORE PLANET BOOKS NEWS! Our once beautiful garden is now a parking lot but for a few heavy plants. And the building has sold, though we have yet to meet our new landlords. Hopefully we will be able to carry on bringing you exciting books and other treasures for a long while, and hey, maybe they`ll let us have a garden... Meanwhile, stay cool, and read lots of books!.

IMPORTANT PLANET BOOKS NEWS! We just received news that gives us 2 weeks to clean out the back garden of EVERYTHING! Or we are evicted and must vacate in 60 days. The owner has been actively been trying to sell the property all year and perhaps feels he has a better chance of selling it with us out. After we take a few of our favorite plants, we may ask you to foster a plant or possibly some other kind of oddity. It seems like it couldn`t have come at a worse time, and if so, hopefully we will get a chance to see you all a few more times

Hi everybody! For those who have been wondering where we have been this last week, or why we here at PLANET BOOKS have been closed,is because I had emergency surgery at the hospital for book related injuries. I got out today and hope to be open soon. I`ll keep you all posted

PLANET BOOKS NEWS It`s been nearly a week since we opened up again and it`s been nice seeing both old friends and new faces. (well maybe not their faces because of the masks) We have recently added about 200 older science fiction paperbacks as well as a handful of Charles Bukowski and Kurt Vonnegut books. We`re still open seven days a week but we are changing our weekend hours to 10:30 am to 5 pm. Thank you for your continuing desire for knowledge and fun.... Stay safe, and read lots of books!

Here at Planet Books, we would like to thank everyone these last 10 weeks for their patience. You have been starved for books, vintage toys and other goodies, and we have had no sales...but now with the proper decorum, (masks and a bit of social distancing) we can once again be that fun place for you to acquire the things that make you happy. We will be reopening Saturday, May 30th. Our hours will be Monday through Friday from 11:30 am to 6 pm, and Saturday & Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm. It will be nice to see you all again, and hopefully a few new faces.
