Well Tootsie gave us 4 surprises today!
Help us find our logo!! Developing a logo is difficult so we enlisted the help of a number of graphic designers and now I need your help narrowing down the field. This logo will be on our website, business cards, product labels (soaps, jams, cheese, caramel, etc.) shirts, mugs, everywhere I can think of. What would catch your eye if you were walking by? If there are elements of particular logo’s you like or hate send me a dm and let me know. Thanks! everyone!
Found them! I’ve been complaining about the lack of eggs- mentioning to my other half- they must be hiding them... went to move a damaged coop and voila- the stash was found. Guesses as to how many are in this pile?
I am in no way minimizing the horrors of COVID (I have had family members with horrible symptoms-including one in ICU on a ventilator); but with that said- it has given me added flexibility with my day job. I made it home a few hours early and was able to watch this doe to two kids. I thought she was done but she had a third about 45 minutes later. Hopefully she doesn’t reject any (seems common on our farm- does decide they have two teats so they are only feeding two kids)
Last spring we were gifted some water cubes with something called Gorilla Snot at the bottom (I looked it up it’s a real thing). Unbeknownst to us if you don’t hose them out quickly the stuff hardens to near cement. Well I found a new use. Cut off the part filled with Gorilla Snot, turn the liner upside down and I can now haul much more wood per trip... handy since we’re likely to get 6 of snow tonight.... It’s cold already.
6 days ago I came home early to take a cat to the vet only to find that something attacked and killed my sweet Biscuit. I cried like a baby. This morning that same animal killed our beloved Copper. I feel like I was hit in the gutt. Our local game warden has confirmed that both were killed by a mountain lion. Sadly fences don’t keep out cats like that and the attacks have been during the day while we are at work. Now we have to attempt to navagate CA big cat laws to see if we can protect our animals.
Saffron!!! Our Saffron just began blooming yesterday. This is our second year growing the most expensive spice in the world (up to $75 per gram). Last year we completed a test run to see if it would grow in our area and reproduce properly. This year we scaled up a bit and hope to have enough that we can sell a little and reinvest that money into the farm. If you are interested please send us a message. As soon as I know how much blooms I can release prices and availability.... I will be posting pictures of the finished product and the process in processing it soon (spoiler alert: it must be picked and processed by hand- that’s why it’s so expensive).
Our newest employee- Livestock guard dog in training.... Dozer. He will join our other livestock guard dog named Tank when he’s older and bigger.
Well we got a surprise when we got home and went out to feed the pigs- Miss Piggy has 9 little muppets (I couldn’t resist)
