Check out some of the work, published this summer, from Dr. Alexandra Moser's graduate thesis. In this study we explored the combined effects of the Alzheimer's risk gene, APOE4, and obesity using a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. We find that Alzheimer's pathology and neuroinflammation are increased in APOE4 mice fed a Western diet.

Congratulations to Pike lab undergraduate researcher Amanda Zhou! She was awarded a Rose Hills Summer Research Fellowship. This incredible program generously supported by the Rose Hills Foundation provides the undergraduate researcher with a $5000 stipend with another $1000 for the sponsoring laboratory. Amanda will be working with graduate student Alexandra Moser investigating how Alzheimer’s disease risk is affected by the interaction between obesity, aging, and testosterone loss. Thank you Rose Hills Foundation.

Pike Lab published a paper in Journal of Neuroinflammation this week. Our research shows that low testosterone and obesity in male mice combine to increase neuroinflammation and worsen neural health. Bottom line for middle-aged men: lose weight and/or take testosterone!
