Super Flower Blood Moon. 5/26/2021. This was taken this morning of the total lunar eclipse over Oakland, California. Happy the fog didn’t roll in and obscure the view of the eclipse. I drove to several locations hoping for different perspectives of the eclipse. I started around 3:30 this morning and continued to photograph it until close to 6AM. Peak eclipse was at 4:19AM and moonset was at 6. I made the effort to capture it since my kids couldn’t see it. They had a big tes...t today at school and didn’t want them to be tired before they took the test. . . It was nice to get out again and photograph something other than my kids’ sports teams. Sadly much has happened since my last post that immersing myself in seeing my kids happy to resume playing sports after over a year was a welcome distraction. I’ll eventually share all that’s happened over these last few weeks. I just need more time to process everything. Where has the month of March gone? I can’t believe we are already a few days into April! This was my favorite sunset in March taken with @imanor in Pacifica. My husband had to work out of town so the boys and I headed to the beach. It had been awhile since we got to see a sunset at the beach. With the lighter pandemic traffic it only took us 30 minutes to get there during rush hour! I enjoyed a friend’s company boys just loved spending time with @jettthelab as well. They d...esperately want another dog after our dog’s passing. We have to work on dad as he’s even one resisting getting another dog. We also ran into @deepaksviewfinder that evening which was also nice. . I was a bit under the weather yesterday. I got my second vaccination shot on Thursday. I am relieved and grateful to have received the shot. It is nice to know my immune system was hard at work one day after receiving the shot. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It was quite the busy weekend going to the grandparent’s house, taking the kids to soccer and baseball games and squeezing in a few hours of work so I won’t be overwhelmed this week. Sadness and anger. That’s really the best way to describe how I’ve been feeling over the last week. I took a few days off from social media to process my feelings about the recent mass shootings in our country. . I am a 4th generation Asian American & the recent violence against people of Asian descent has left me horrified & angry. It seems like no matter how long my family has lived in this country & despite the fact that I can only speak English, I will always be viewed a...s being less American just by the way I look. It’s an uncomfortable reality that I’ve had to face since leaving the bubble of Hawaii where I grew up. In Hawaii, the majority of people are Asian so I never felt out of place. I’ve since lived on the mainland & have experiences where even good intentions can be perceived as racist & a slight against my ethnicity by well meaning people. I am trying my best to teach my kids to be proud of where their ancestors came from & at the same time to keep a little bit of their guard up because of what’s been happening. I also have to keep my guard up & worry about my elderly in-laws. . The news in Colorado also shook me. I worked with someone who attended Columbine High School, my sister lived in Aurora, and I went to Boulder often to visit friends. I also almost took a job at King Soopers (ended up working at Safeway instead). On our last trip the kids & I went shopping at Target which is a few blocks away from that King Soopers. Colorado has had the very sad distinction of having so many mass shootings. When will this all stop? When can my kids stop having to practice active shooter drills at school? When can I walk down the street without being on alert that someone may attack me? This is a sad time that we’re living in. . Once again, I find hope in the beauty of the world. This is the Colorado State Capital. I took this before sunrise on our last trip in 2018. Did you know that there is a marker on a step that is exactly 1 mile high? Woke up early to head over to the Marin Headlands for an absolutely amazing sunrise. With a lot of people working from home, traffic isn’t bad heading up there these days. It was incredible how the sky lit up. It really did look like the sky was on fire. It was also nice to see @bersonphotos and @mrboovn. I don’t get much interaction with live people and it was nice to see other humans safely in a masked, socially distant way outdoors. Stay safe out there. What a day. Monday’s are usually busy but today it was extra hectic. Didn’t head out for sunrise and opted for a few more hours of sleep instead. Thankful that I did because work was just exhausting. We also started socially distant soccer practice again so it just added to the stress of the day. Thankful for takeout dinner. Also happy to relive this sunrise taken exactly a week ago. Got up for the seventh day in a row to catch the sunrise. It was beautiful the way the low clouds lit up after sunrise. The summit of Mt Diablo is under that cloud. Sunrise number 5. Survived the first work week of the new year and five straight days of sunrises. On Monday, we saw a beautiful rainbow. Happy that we ended the work week with another beautiful rainbow. Did you catch it? It was a wonderful way to end an absolutely crazy week. Work was crazy, our country went crazy, and life in general was crazy. Grateful to have these sunrises to keep me sane. Started in Concord to try to explore a new area. Went through Walnut Creek and then finally back to Oakland when everything on the other side of the tunnel became covered with fog.
