Dynamic Stretching for Splits #1: *Ball Assisted Active Hip Opener* Tucked in this exercises is a combination of many familiar ones. *Supporting the leg on the ball has some similar qualities to the second stretch on the barre, a nice elevation to end range w/ some instability giving great feedback to the core. *Rolling the ball in and out as if on a slider. *Flexing and Extending the leg as done in the straddle position with the combination of IR and ER of the hip to reall...y plug that femur into the hip socket. Dancers do not live in the middle, the positions required are at END RANGE for full, elongated, & beautiful extensions :) Check in throughout February to view all of splits series posts. Dynamic Stretching for Splits #3 TRX Pigeon + assisted thoracic rotation and terminal knee extension. To work on squaring our hips for our splits we need to address the mobility of our spine and hips for rotation. Pigeon is one of those magical positions that taps into so many spots at once. Once you are set in pigeon, engage the core for support of the lumbar spone. Next, inhale as you look back and guide your hand back to rotate the thoracic spine as you simultaneously ex...tend the back knee. Exhale to return back to center. Repeat 5-8x ea. Focus on elongation head to ceiling, between the fingertips, & through the back heel. If pigeon is uncomfortable stick your yoga block in to support the hip. No access to TRX? Try subbing a physioball instead, pressing down on the ball while rotating gave me a similar lift :) Check in throughout February to view all of splits series posts.
