Some images of our booth at the Sacramento County Bar Association Golf Tournament. At least, what wasn't blown away by the wind gusts!
Enjoyed the day at the Sacramento County Bar Association Gold Tournament! We were out on the 9th hole with our smiles and our offerings! We provided the recipe for our minted lemonade cocktail if anyone wants to make their own. Thank you to everyone who came to help out and play on the links!
Our office made a showing at the MCLE Mountain Retreat for the Placer County Bar Association! Doesn't look much like spring though.
Let’s Get Real. Time. A valuable service many firms and agencies are not familiar with is realtime reporting. A realtime reporter can utilize specialized equipment to transmit the transcripts that they are writing in a deposition or hearing to tablets or laptop computers for attorneys, judges, or witnesses to read along with in real time. (Hence the name) This allows any participants the ability to follow along with what is being said verbally if they are hearing-impaired..., multitasking, or simply wish the ability to read as they listen. Perhaps the most powerful function of a realtime set-up is that the user can scroll back and read what has been said, or with a laptop computer, make notes and utilize a search function! If this sounds interesting, Phillips Legal Services can accommodate the request! Our Certified Realtime Reporters are ready, and we are always happy to provide to our clients anything they might need or want.
Deposition Subpoenas. The idea behind them is fairly simple: you serve papers to a facility for records, the facility makes the records available to copy, and the copy service provides the records to the ordering party. But anyone who has experience processing subpoenas knows that things aren’t quite as simple as they seem. Each location where records requested (facility) has their own protocol and procedures for dealing with records requests. So here are a few tips to e...Continue reading
Court reporting isn't the only jobs that require the skills a court reporter has. Captioning is a vital service for the hearing-impaired. http://thejcr.com/2016/02/16/captioning-the-super-bowl/
It's that time of year again! National Court Reporting and Captioning Week! Read all about it here! bit.ly/1O09Irm
Our friends over at Porter Scott are hosting a bake sale to benefit the Ronald McDonald House this week, Friday February 12 from 11am to 1:30pm in the main lobby at 350 University Ave, Sacramento. Come on out and support a good cause!
We found an interesting opinion piece and we couldn't agree more! As technology becomes more and more important in our day to day lives, it's equally important that we remember the value of what we as humans can do. bit.ly/1olR74u
Here at Phillips, we offer a wide variety of services for our clients. Our court reporters hold an array of certifications to meet the challenges of any job, big or small. Here is a brief overview of what the various certifications our reporters hold. The first level of certification our reporters get is Certified Shorthand Reporter. CSRs are certified stenographers who type with specialized steno keyboards to let them type at speeds a common keyboard cannot match. In the... State of California, These certificates are granted after completion of a certification program and a licensing exam administered by the Department of Consumer Affairs. In the State of California, court reporters must hold a license to report depositions or work in the courtroom. Some of our reporters hold a Registered Professional Reporter certificate. RPRs are offered by the National Court Reporters Association, which is the national professional organization of court reporters. The exam proctored by the NCRA consists of a written knowledge test and a skills portion (which requires 95 percent accuracy to pass at speeds up to 225 words per minute!) The NCRA offers a second level of certification called Registered Merit Reporter. The RMR is a more advanced certificate indicating the reporter has passed a three-part high-speed proficiency exam at speeds up to 260 words per minute. Finally, some of our reporters are Certified Realtime Reporters. The CRR certificate is bestowed on a reporter by the NCRA after successfully completing a proficiency examination and it certifies that the reporter’s steno-to-English translation is 96% error free, which results in a very clean instant visual display of proceedings.

Changes to the California Code of Civil Procedure, effective January 1, 2016!
