Standing with Students, Teachers and the Community. Issues that in my view need to be given higher priority include: School Safety... Alarming incidents of sexual assault and harassment, in particular at BHS, need to be addressed with a zero-tolerance approach Equity Endemic and implicit biases that lead to racial inequalities, and the school-to-prison pipeline must be more deliberately brought to forefront and remedied Climate Crisis More deliberate policies need to be developed to bring BUSD to zero carbon footprint You can read more about my vision and campaign platform in more detail on my website at www.imani4schoolboard.org If you want to support my campaign financially please use this link https://secure.actblue.com/donate/imani4sb# Thank you for your continued support and generous donations.

MOHAMMAD-REZA SHAJARIAN 1940 - 2020 It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we learned about the passing of the great maestro Mohammad-Reza Shajarian after his long battle with kidney cancer. He was survived by his wife and five children. ... Master Shajarian was an iconic Iranian vocalist born in Mashad, Iran, where he started singing at the age of five under his father’s supervision. He rose to prominence in the 1960s with his distinct singing style, and he is recognized worldwide as a renowned vocalist. In 1999, UNESCO presented him with the Picasso Award for enrichment and development of music and in 2006 with the UNESCO Mozart Medal. In 2014, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite, the highest distinction in France. In 2019, the Patron's Award by the Agha Khan Foundation, in recognition of his enduring contribution to the musical heritage of humanity was awarded to the maestro. He was also nominated for two Grammy Awards for Best Traditional World Music Album in 2003 and 2005. National Public Radio (NPR) hailed him as one of the 50 Great Voices of all time, and in 2017, he was called the "Greatest living maestro of Persian classical music" by The Los Angeles Times. He was a man of many talents: apart from composing music and playing various musical instruments, he invented new musical instruments, did calligraphy and designed Japanese gardens. Master Shajarian’s legacy and voice will last for eternity; his tremendous impact has and will be instrumental in the world of music as he trained many students and was an influential figure for many more. His final resting place will be next to revered 9th century Persian poet Ferdowsi. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire Persian Center family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and millions of fans around the world. May he rest in peace!

Esfandiar Imani has been a Berkeley resident for the past 26 years. All three of his daughters attended and graduated from Berkeley public schools K-12. While he and his family had a positive experience with the Berkeley public school system, they have also witnessed first-hand serious issues. There are serious issues that need immediate and proper attention: sexual assaults and harassments, in particular at BHS; racial inequalities; ending the school to prison pipeline; maki...ng sure teachers are heard and compensated properly; bringing BUSD to zero carbon footprint. He will work hard with his colleagues, teachers, school administrators, the office of superintendent, and other stakeholders to be a champion and a voice for the students and their families. He is an advocate for the students, teachers, and the community. He has been reading your stories and stands with you. Please reach out to him with any suggestions--this campaign is for you.
