BIRD FEEDERS ALERT SALMONELLA OUTBREAK According to the Bird Rescue Center of Sonoma County, California is currently experiencing a serious Salmonellosis (Salmonella) outbreak brought on by an unusually high concentration of Pine Siskins at feeders and bird baths. Salmonellosis is a contagious disease that can be transferred from birds to humans and pets that run free in yards where birds gather at feeders and bird baths. RECOMMENDATIONS: Immediately remove and thoroughly clean all seed-feeders and birdbaths with 1 part bleach to 9 parts warm water. If you observe dead or sick birds* leave feeders and baths down for a minimum of 3-4 weeks so birds will disperse. Wear gloves and wash hands thoroughly. Keep cats indoors.
