Numerous studies show that smoking significantly increases the risk of developing eye conditions from those as simple as a dry eye to ones as serious as cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic retinopathy. . We can’t stop ourselves from aging, but we can avoid smoking. Even for lifelong heavy smokers, quitting will still reduce the risk of eye disease.
Dry eye usually affects both eyes. Although uncommon, it is possible to experience dry eye in only one eye. In this case, the cause of dry eye is most likely caused by a blocked tear duct. Sometimes both eyes are actually dry, but one is just more symptomatic. . Contact us at 760-758-2008 to schedule an eye exam.

Though commonly used to treat corneal irregularities and refractive errors, scleral lenses can also provide great relief to dry eye patients. Here are six reasons why: 1. They don’t irritate the cornea as other contacts do, 2. Their design ensures constant hydration of the eye, 3. They protect the cornea,... 4. They allow the eye to regain a healthier appearance, 5. Patients can continue using eye drops and artificial tears during lens wear, 6. Scleral lenses can drastically improve the quality of life. Call us today at 760-758-2008 to schedule your consultation and learn more about these special lenses.
Sunglasses can help cut your risk of getting cataracts. Science shows that ultraviolet (UV) light can cause changes in your eyes and that UV light damages the proteins in your lens. That's why you need to wear sunglasses.

Cataracts are a common condition, especially for older people. Cataracts typically begin developing in people aged 40 years and older but don’t usually impair vision until after age 60. Around age 40, most people begin to experience a condition called presbyopia. Presbyopia, or the hardening of your eyes’ lenses, makes it harder for you to focus on too close objects. In many cases, you can lessen its impact simply by holding objects (like a book) further away from your face. Even if you’ve never worn glasses before, you’ll probably need a prescription once you turn 40. In some cases, you can choose lens exchange surgery to correct your presbyopia.
Floaters in your field of vision can not only be a nuisance, but they can also interfere with your daily activities. Comprised of collagen fiber clusters, floaters create a shadow-type effect on your vision in the form of strands, cobwebs, or rings. Dr. Pendleton can remove floaters using a vitreolysis floater laser treatment. To fully remove the floaters, more than one treatment session may be necessary. . To learn more about the treatment or to schedule a consultation, contact us today at 760-758-2008.
Healthy adults with no vision problems should have an eye exam every 1-2 years; adults over age 60 should have an annual eye exam. Don't hesitate to schedule your next appointment with us today at 760-758-2008.

Before touching your lenses, make sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. By touching your contact lenses with dirty hands, you transfer bacteria to your lenses, leading to an infection. Preferably dry your hands with a disposable paper towel rather than a cloth towel, and ensure that no remnants of the towel remain on your fingers.
