Please support the campaign led by our friends at the San Francisco Youth Commission to give Voting Rights to 16 & 17 year olds in San Francisco. See more info below! Hello Vote16 supporters and hopeful supporters! COVID-19 has affected us all but especially has disproportionately impacted communities of color, so it’s important for us to leverage our power and continue our work advocating for an equitable and healthy San Francisco. Our hearts go out to all of the people wh...o have been impacted by the pandemic and all those who live with the constant fear of racist violence. Might we find a glimmer of hope in advocating for 16 & 17 year olds to have the right to vote to possibly leverage their voices to vote on measures and elected officials that would fight against police brutality, environmental racism, and gentrification, among many other injustices towards BIPOC? If you attended the youth led Mission protest on Wednesday, young people are already leading and calling for accountability! We are in the throes of the legislative process which means we are moving quickly and with not a lot of advanced notice. We have just been confirmed that the Vote16 legislation will be heard in the Rules Committee on Monday, June 15th. The meeting starts at 10am but all we know is that the legislation will not be heard right at that time. Our Call to Action is to speak up and speak out in public comment on Monday, June 15th!! In order to feel ready to do so, the Youth Commissioners are providing a public comment training on Thursday, June 11th from 4-5:30pm. Both youth and adults are invited!! We ask you to inform your community members about this upcoming training as well as for the Rules Committee Public Comment itself. If you have conncections in District 2, we are specifically looking to sway Supervisor Stefani who is on Rules Committee and has not publicly stated support for Vote16. A flier is attached and here's basic text you can use for social media and/or outreach (but feel free to add your own pizazz): Vote16 Public Comment Thursday, June 11th 4pm - Public Comment Training Monday, June 15th 10am - Give Public Comment Vote16 is a proposed charter amendment that will be heard in the Board of Supervisors Rules Committee. Tell San Francisco's elected officials why they should put Vote16 on the ballot! Give public comment on June 15th to voice your support for why 16 & 17 year olds should get the right to vote! To help you prepare, we are hosting a Vote16 Public Comment training on Thursday, June 11th from 4-5:30pm. Register for the Public Comment Training here: http://bit.ly/vote16training.
Congrats Ana! Thank you Community Boards San Francisco for being a partner in this work.
Hi Peer Resources Family! We fully recognize that our anti-racist and justice activist colleagues are likely both working through grief, exhaustion and continuing to organize and offer hope for a re-imagined community that values and celebrates black lives. We honor your work and believe that Peer Resources can continue to be an integral part of this justice journey. As we search for our next Executive Director, we invite members of the Peers Community -- past and present -- ...to join us. We've extended the application deadline to next Friday, June 12th, end of day. We invite members of the Peers Community -- specifically alumni, former staff, and those that have worked with Peer Resources as partners -- who are interested in the Executive Director role to submit their letters of interest, resume, and three references (see job description for details). Successful applicants will be very familiar with Peer Resources (past and present) and its institutional and community partners across the city. NOTE: Applications will be reviewed by the Board on a rolling basis starting immediately, and stop accepting applications at the end of the day next Friday, June 12th. Feel free to share this with your Peers colleagues and friends -- text! call! socially-distance visit! -- since our communication channels might not be able to reach everyone quickly. If you have questions or suggestions, please email our Advisory Board Chair, Hayin Kimner ([email protected]).
