What’s the role of the RBT? Obtaining certification as a Registered Behavior Technician demonstrates competency in a variety of content areas, including data collection, assessment procedures, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, documentation, and ethical conduct. Once certified, RBTs maximize their skill set, gain hands-on experience in clinical practices, and receive ongoing support under the supervision of a graduate-level behavior analyst. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the progress with my clients. Each session is different from the next. Going to session and working on a goal, and then seeing a client independently complete the goal is a very heartwarming feeling. It is also very rewarding when a family sees their child progress with our continued support. My advice to anyone entering this field? Be patient and don’t be afraid to use the strategies that you learn from others. Each client is diff...erent and things will change daily. The same techniques used with one client may not work for another, and if those techniques worked today they might not work tomorrow. I'm grateful to work with individuals who genuinely enjoy making a difference in the population we serve. Before joining PBS, I had minimal experience assisting the special needs population. I was nervous at first and I had many questions. After six months of working in the field as an ABA Therapist and Community Facilitator, I've established relationships with my clients, received positive feedback from families, and have exercised my passion to believe in the abilities of a...ll. Teaching them to embrace their individual differences has been an invaluable experience so far. I've grown personally and have adapted to circumstances that are common in the field. I've realized how important it is to be patient because everyone learns at their own pace. I've learned that my clients have unique experiences, personalities, and needs. I enjoy helping them work towards their goals as they integrate within their communities. It's been a rewarding experience helping them find confidence in their disability. It's inspiring to make them laugh or smile; that's important to maintaining my relationship with them.
