Meet Rob Tobin! A local San Diego artist that is working with PBTC on our new Pacific Beach Community Surf Garden project at PB Rec Center! We are so excited to work with him to improve our community! He is the director of creativity for the nonprofit A Reason To Survive (ARTS) and he has worked with schools and communities to facilitate large-scale mosaic murals. Learn more about Rob and ARTS here. https://www.areasontosurvive.org/
PBTC is still accepting donated used surfboards for our latest community project: Pacific Beach Community Surf Garden. It entails large mosaicked surfboard murals along with a new paint job on the PB Rec Center! All surfboards can be taken to Fitness West for drop off. PBTC is happy to partner with local artist Rob Tobin, who specializes in community participatory art, who will create, one-of-a-kind, large-scale mosaic art installations on top of a fresh, bright paint job that will transform the PB Rec Center and make a positive impact on the neighborhood. The murals will be mixed media paint and mosaicked surfboards in a flower pattern. What do you think of this fresh and vibrant look? Learn more about this project here on how you can get involved! https://www.pbtowncouncil.org/pb-rec-center-mural/

Update Edit: on tues night, the City's Mission Bay Park Committee gave initial approval for PBTC's proposed hours change to 10am-4pm year round. Several more approvals needed, but first step taken. Thanks to all who submitted comments. This sign shows hours for "Dogs Not Allowed" around Mission Bay, and PBTC is proposing that the City loosen up these hours a little to give dog owners a bit more time in the morning and evening. You can help by submitting supportive comment...s ASAP for PB town council's proposal (Item #202) for hours change to 10:00am - 4:00pm year-round in the online comment form here (instructions: select Mission Bay Park Committee, meeting date Oct. 6, select agenda comment, item #202): https://www.sandiego.gov/boards-and-commissi/public-comment This proposal will be considered by the City's Mission Bay Park Committee on Tuesday at 6:00pm, but comments need to be submitted ASAP. For more substantial penalties on theft -- vote yes on prop 20! Dial back negative effects of Prop 47 by lowering the felony threshold for theft in state law from $950 to $250 on the 3rd offense. Prop 20 also aims to reclassify a number of crimes from "nonviolent" to "violent" in order to eliminate eligibility for early release on those crimes such as human trafficking of a child, felony domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, and more. Our all-volunteer PBTC gathered hundreds of signatures in 2018 at our monthly town hall meetings, and mailed the petition forms back into Sacramento to help qualify this measure for the ballot. Please vote YES ON 20!
