Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones from all of us at Patty de Jong Income Tax!

Please beware: effective Sept. 1st thru the end of the year, if you make less than $4000/biweekly, your employer can defer withholding your social security & Medicare taxes from your paycheck. Even though this would give you more $$ in your paycheck now, the amounts must be REPAID. The IRS has issued guidelines to employers to repay the $$ withheld. The guidance says employers must withhold the taxes from employees from Jan. 1 through April 30 2021, meaning that workers will have DOUBLE the deduction taken from their paychecks next year to pay back the deferred portion. The US Chamber of Commerce and over 30 trade associations have already released statements opposing this "deferral" of taxes, citing hardships for both employers and employees.

Normally, I would be saying Happy Tax Day but there is nothing normal in this 2020 tax season! The deadline has automatically changed to July 15th for both the IRS and California. Alison and I are taking the next few days off for a much needed break but will be back in the office on Monday, April 20th. The same procedures will still be in place: no appointments but you can e-mail, fax, text or drop off your paperwork. Also, you may check the status of your stimulus check by visiting irs.gov. Thank you for continual support of our small business!

This is a pretty picture of a not-so-pretty virus that is changing how we do business. At this time, we are working but not scheduling any appointments. You may drop off paperwork (there is a bucket by the office door, just let us know so we can retrieve it immediately), fax or email us your paperwork. The tax deadline for both the IRS and California has been moved to July 15th, giving everyone plenty of time to file. We are changing our procedures in an abundance of caution to keep both our employees and customers healthy. Please stay safe! We will get through this together!!

Update: the IRS has extended the tax due date until July 15th. California is still June 15th.

Due to an overabundance of caution and protecting the health of my employees and clients, we will not be scheduling any appointments for the next few weeks. We will be in the office from 9-5 everyday if you would like to drop off your paperwork. You may also fax it in (760-723-4272), email it ([email protected]) or text it (760-990-3240) to us. We can also be reached by phone (760-723-5215). The good news is that both the IRS and the state of California have extended the tax deadline to June 15th, with no penalties or interest until after that date. Thanks for your understanding during this difficult time.
